I Miss You Man

The fellas love Invincible and they love surprises. So they really loved it this week when a surprise episode of Invincible dropped! Telling the origin story of Atom Eve, it's just a terrific return to the world of Invincible and the fellas couldn't have enjoyed it more. So give it a watch and then give us a listen. In that order. But we don't get too spoilery if you want to listen to us first.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… Invincible: Atom Eve.

The fellas are just having a chat this week. That’s allowed, isn’t it? Firstly, we talk about the strangely awful Flash movie. Why did Stephen King say he liked it? We’ll never know. Then Lonnie takes us on a journey of rugby league in cinema, as he prepares for an upcoming conference presentation. Some great films, some odd ones. And Dylan finishes up with a rundown on some recent wrestling pay per views, which he may or may not have fallen asleep while watching.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… Black Mirror and a video game called Inscryption!

It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – Black Snake Moan

Look, it’s an odd one for sure, this is. The premise is confronting, as is the imagery and overall narrative. Yet Samuel L. Jackson and Christina are brilliant as always. The best thing you can do is listen to us talk about it (and maybe watch it yourself if you want. Up to you).

If you were a journalist, would you ever lie? Embellish? Bend the truth? I hope not. But if you did, maybe they’d make a fantastic movie about your fall from grace. So maybe it’d be worth it? That’s what they did to Stephen Glass, with this terrific 2003 film “Shattered Glass” – stellar cast, compelling story and all over in 90 minutes. Perfection. We talk about the film, and another recent German film “A Thousand Lines” and generally consider the ethics of being shifty with the truth. Good pod.

Before the MCU, before the Spider-Verse, before Endgame, Marvel was a very different franchise. In the 1990s, they were busting out all sorts of animated TV series, all of varying quality. We’ve had a look at the pilot episode of each of these shows to figure out which one is worth sticking with. X-Men, Spider-Man, sure, they’re the favourites. But are they better than Silver Surfer or the Fantastic Four? Have a listen. We’ll tell ya.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… The original Spider-Man comics!

Indiana Jones is rollicking back into cinemas any minute now. He’s one of our favourite adventure heroes and we’re bloody excited. But get this. Indy isn’t just a silver screen hero. Nah, when he was younger, Indiana Jones apparently had adventures all around the world with just about every famous person from the early 20th century. The TV show is a bit edutainment but it’s also a bit of fun.

We were joined by our favourite guest of all time, Julian Barr, for this one. Our unofficial third man whom we miss! Always insightful, Julian is a creative writer, historian and pop culture junkie. He’s a triple threat and one of the best blokes you’ll ever met. So listen up and get excited to learn about kid Indiana Jones.

Our Get Amongst It suggestion… Indiana Jones. Surprising.

Well well well, look at all this! It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – Penelope!

Can a pig nose make Christina Ricci ugly? The answer is no. Is this movie any good? The answer is also no. Did we have a great time recording this podcast? Well you’ll have to listen to find out. It’s an extremely odd movie, almost from another dimension. Really quite weird. Just listen to us talk about it, probably.

Well well well, look at all this! It’s another episode of I Miss You Man!

Lonnie has crawled up into Dylan’s big, beautiful head and set up shop. He’s asking a series of carefully calculated hypothetical questions to see what makes him tick. You can play along too. Which TV show would you want to live in for a week? What would you do if you were invisible for a day? What is everyone on Earth jumped at once? Just all the classic hypotheticals, you know.

Back in episode 11, we figured out who the best Dylan of all time is. This week we have turned the tables. It’s Lonnie’s turn in the hot seat as Dylan takes him through some of the most notable Lawrences of all time. It’s about time we worked out who the best one is – spoiler alert, it might be someone with a podcast who likes to donate to Wikipedia!
