I Miss You Man

We all love Superman, right? He’s the original and the best. But everyone is a critic and some people over the years have thrown down some controversial hot takes about the Man of Steel. Does Superman have iconic villains? Is evil Superman boring? Are we sick of kryptonite? Dylan and Lonnie sort through it all and bring a few takes of their own.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… Look Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman documentary that inspired this very episode.

It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – New York, I Love You.

There’s some post-Speed Racer blues on the podcast this week, but we try to make do as we watch a strange little film. An anthology film with intersecting love lives of New Yorkers playing out, written and directed by a many different creative teams. Some stories work well, some don’t, and some are just plain weird. Christina is mainly heard not seen, but we love her anyway.

Lonnie and Dylan are staring down the barrel of the big three-oh. So to get prepared, they’ve found the 11 questions they need to ask themselves before this milestone. Where are your relationships at? What good are you doing in the world? Do you want kids? What to do with your eggs? The fellas take stock of their lives and you know what? They just might be ready to turn 30 now.

Dylan has gone down a YouTube rabbit hole this week, trying to figure out if we all see the same colours. How do you describe colour? How would you ever know if someone else’s red doesn’t match yours? Lonnie brings along a few of his own life questions and the fellas ponder together. Not many answers, but lots of questions this week, my dudes.

It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – Speed Racer!

Get your engines started! Lonnie and Dylan reviewed Speed Racer all the way back in episode four of the main show, where their love of Christina Ricci first blossomed, and the Christina Chronicles emerged. For the second lap of this unique film, they invited along one of their favourite pop culture connoisseurs, Cameron Williams. Cameron was all about Speed Racer when it came out and, like Dylan, has a lot of love for the movie. Lonnie is less enamoured but appreciates it nonetheless!

Lonnie has been listening to a lot of Billy Joel recently. He thought the fellas should watch some Billy Joel music videos and chat about them. That’s how simple these episodes can be sometimes. Don’t have to overthink it. The Piano Man is all you need.

Dylan has been playing some fighting video games of late. He’s loving them and wanted to share that love with Lonnie via the medium of film. So they watched some fighting video game movies to decide which one comes out on top! It’s a fight to the death but there’s a clear winner. Hint: it’s the one with the iconic theme song.

The movies:

Street Fighter: The Movie (1994)

Mortal Kombat (1995)

DOA Dead or Alive (2006)

The King of Fighters (2009)

Tekken (2009)

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… King of the Hill and robovacs!

It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – Home of the Brave.

Middling. A noble dud. Not exciting. Everyone is trying really hard in this early exploration of American soldiers returning from the Middle East, but sadly it’s not that gripping. And Christina is barely in it! Have a listen for more of our thoughts.
