I Miss You Man

Dads love rock music. Dads who are divorced love rock music too – but a certain kind of rock music. And sometimes these dads are from Australia. This week, the fellas turn their attention to this genre of music which is all about emotion, pain and rocking out. Nickelback, Thirsty Merc, 3 Doors Down – the classics are all here.

The future of computers! In the early 1990s did they have any idea what it would be like? Well sort of. More of an idea than you might have thought. The fellas watched an episode of Beyond 2000, an Australian TV show all about predicting the future, which is now our past. And it was pretty fun!

Dylan has made Lonnie watch Bedazzled - the 2000 comedy film with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley as the devil. Will Lonnie be charmed or will he despise it? And what did Roger Ebert think? Only time will tell.

Rugby league is a sport close to Lonnie’s heart. Dylan is less interested. But they both love movies! And this week they’re joined by Michael Adams to discuss The Final Winter, a 2007 cult classic film about rugby league. The film is written by and stars Matt Nable in his breakout role as Grub, a Newtown Jets champion at the precipice of retirement. The Final Winter charts an interesting time in rugby league’s development when violence and toughness (and maybe thuggery!) was slowly being cleaned – but perhaps at the expense of the game’s purity and, dare we say it, its soul. The fellas get into all this and more in a really great discussion, for footy fans and newcomers alike!

Michael is the host of the Rugby League Digest, a rugby league history podcast and an all round great bloke.

You can find out more about Michael and The Rugby League Digest at their website or on Acast. They’re on Twitter too. Also check out the Tom Brock group as well!

If human society must move to Mars to rebuild, what do you think we should take? Dylan reckons we take two of everything and made a list of the essential elements. And he asked Lonnie for his input as well. And they recorded this discussion and put it up on the internet for you to listen to, for free.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week…  the Fall Guys game. Dylan is really good at it.

The fellas have found people online who are searching for the answer to the eternal question… am I overreacting? Is it weird my girlfriend has another close guy friend? Is it normal for me to feel weird about my girlfriend wearing a skimpy bikini at the beach with friends? Should my husband eat the shrimp that’s been in the car? All the big questions, answered here, finally.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week…  the Quiet Place movies!
