I Miss You Man

A lot of film and TV is about goals, conflict and drama. But sometimes it’s good to chill out and have a look at the slower parts of life, the hanging out and chilling. This week Lonnie and Dylan found four episodes of animated television that are slices of life, more than they are drama filled excitement machines. Mainly kids cartoons but Dylan sneaked in an anime as well.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… Sonic the Hedgehog, old and new.

The episodes we watched:

Hey Arnold!

Season 1, Episode 7 “Operation: Ruthless / The Vacant Lot”

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Season 3 Episode 10 “Let’s Go Eat Some Italian Food”

The Weekenders

Season 1 Episode 14 “Pudding Ball”

Recess

Season 1 Episode 5 “King Gus and Big Brother Chad”

As far as comedy rock bands go, there’s not many better than Tenacious D. This week Dylan has guided Lonnie through some of Jack Black and Kyle Gass’s best music videos. Some are a bit naughtier than Lonnie expected, but hey, that’s the D for you.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… the new movie ‘Civil War’.

It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – The Smurfs 2!

The Smurfs aren’t something we’re particularly into, but hey, we’re here for Christina. She plays Vexy in this pretty basic kids movie – and she does a great bloody job, might we add.

It’s a great movie with a many tragic backstories. And it’s a story about seeking vengeance in an unjust world so of course Dylan is all about it. Lonnie kind of liked it too! This week we’re talking about The Crow!

It’s another instalment of The Christina Chronicles, our deep dive into the filmography of Christina Ricci! This week – War Flowers.

This is it. The worst chapter yet. A middling Civil War drama. Entirely forgettable.

Sometimes when TV shows end, they decide to leave you on a real downer of an ending. This week the fellas watched some unexpectedly dark TV finales to figure out... what the heck was going on?! Why so dark all of a sudden?

We watched:

Dinosaurs

That Mitchell and Webb Look

ALF

How I Met Your Mother

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… the movie "Mr Holmes" and feta cheese.

What would drive a young man to embark on a suicidal mission to the world’s most remote people? Religion is a factor, but the death of John Chau certainly raises more questions than just fanatical faith.

Back in episode 111 The Ethical Considerations of Uncontacted Peoples and The Story of Ishi we briefly spoke about John Chau’s story and mentioned a new documentary about his life and death. That doco is called “The Mission” and now that it’s on Disney+, we thought we better watch it and have a chat. Lonnie liked it, Dylan’s not so sure.

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… The documentary “The Mission” available on Disney+.

Last week we walked you through arm wrestling, the concept. This week, we’ll walk you through arm wrestling, the movies.

First up, Sylvester Stallone’s sweaty epic “Over the Top” where his character, an honest trucker, has to arm wrestle to win custody of his son. It’s both as silly and way more serious than that sounds.

Then, we look at a recent feminist foray into the world of arm wrestling in “Golden Arm”. It’s much funnier but just as sincere. Both films are surprisingly great!

And our Get Amongst It suggestion this week… The two movies, Over the Top and Golden Arm!

Lonnie and Dylan record a podcast in their spare time so you can safely assume they’re weak and puny. However, some people out there are strong and prove their might through the artform of arm wrestling. This week the fellas have dived in the history and rules of arm wrestling and it’d be great if you listened in.
