This week, Mike, Nick, and special guest Jeff (who’s audio is static-y, and we apologize!) talk comics and their comic picks for the week (Archie #3, They’re Not Like Us #8, and Material Volume 1). The gang discusses price points in comics–Justin Jordan talked about how $9.99 volume 1’s at Image sometimes don’t work. Following, BOOM! announced a 15% reduction in comics being produced and a new LCS program to keep #1s in their shop.

Hosts Nick, Brian, and Jon disregard their holy overlord Mike to record a secret podcast (not really). They chat their current comic reads and their comic picks for this week (Runaways #4, We Are Robin #4, Mythic #4, Book of Death #3)–even though Jon didn’t really have a pick. Stretching into the discussion territory, the gang chats about how we, as readers, deal with comic creators who are jerks? They move on to discussing DC’s “un-cancelling” of Omega Men then wrap up with a discussion about books coming back from the dead (ie. Bedlam, maybe).

The primary topic this week revolved around “hype marketing” and popular characters getting their own solo titles. It’s a doozy.

At one point, Nick, Paul, and Mike decided to talk about Transformers vs. GI Joe at length and store it away. It was this week that, despite having comic picks (Dead Drop #4, Superman #43, and Fall of Ninjak), they had nothing to talk about (except some lingering thoughts from last week). So, as a fix for this situation, they have pulled from the “vault” their talk on Transformers vs. GI Joe–if you’re not sick of them talking about it yet, you will be after this week.

Hosts Mike and Nick chat comics and their comic picks (Constantine: The Hellblazer #3 and Batman #43) as per usual. Following, there’s a big “COME ON” to Marvel about the whole Black Widow debacle. To round off the episode, things turn to the discussion of buying comics to make a buck, inspired by this USA Today article. It was a wild ride–there’s a longer rant, post-credits (Do you listen to the after credits part of the podcast? You really should.).

In a magical, last-minute chance, Mike and Nick were joined by Jeff Perry, host of the After Image podcast. After their comic picks for the week (The Wicked + The Divine #13, Nailbiter #15, and Bloodshot: Reborn #5), the gang dives into Jeff’s podcast and his love for Image comics, then they try to (and only sort of do) answer the question, “How do you drop comics from your regular pull list?” While they never truly answer the question, a discussion about their experiences in buying comics, how to pre-order comics (via Kieron Gillen), and the advantages and disadvantages of buying digital and print comics.
