Ideal Remake

Can you believe it? Here we are, at the end of a long day, monologuing to camera about how TIRED we are. Well. We just podcasted about a daughter having a wedding. And gosh dangit if we’re not about to tell you the whole story.

This week we’re remaking Father of the Bride with the… father(?) of the Dueling Genre podcasting network… Scott Carelli (@ScottCarelli)!

Do we have what it take to remake a movie that is ITSELF a remake, is currently in the process of being remade, and honestly deserves to have a remake? Yes. Yes we do. This is the Ideal Remake hat trick and we are HERE FOR IT!!

Just like these swans are here for this wedding.

Hey, how do you think we should start this movie?
Me? Oh I think we should start this movie by BLOWING UP THE EARTH!!
Daaaaaaang. Okay I’m in!

This episode we’re remaking Titan AE with guests from the Not If I Reboot You First podcast! (@NIIRYFPod) Tanner Vogelsang (@SparkyUpstart) and Lindsay Mitchell (@lindsaym476) help Sam (@SamGasch) really dig deep into what does and doesn’t work from this Don Bluth animated movie. Did YOU know it was a Don Bluth movie? Because *I* sure didn’t!

We all vaguely remember Titan AE coming out, but does it hold up? How can we make it better? Tune in and find out!

Savannah Smiles is a now obscure movie from 1982. It’s about a couple of formerly incarcerated individuals (very, VERY recently incarcerated) on the run from the law when a little girl sneaks into their car. Now they’re stuck taking care of her! What? They can’t just abandon Savannah. They’re not monsters!

I had never heard of this movie.

Luckily that’s what I had this week’s guest for! Returning guest Gretchen Krull (@gretchenkrull) is here to introduce us all to a little girl and warm our hearts.

And it works! This movie is delightful! Now let’s introduce it to a new generation with a wonderful remake about happy families where no one is inspired to run away by a piece of popular culture!

This week we’re remaking what is already an ideal remake! The Al Pacino Scarface that we all know if a remake of a movie from 1932! And THAT was an adaptation from a book! And since we neither read the book, nor watched the original, we are remaking the remake baby!

Because after all, the world is OURS!

Scarface is an incredible movie for a lot of different reasons and it has certainly made its mark on popular culture. Luckily this week’s guest can really help me cut to the core of what it represents and how its composed.

Film Reframed’s Roman Lucio Cuilla Martinez (@romanlcmartinez) & KC (@vamborella on Instagram) use all of their expertise and knowledge to craft the best remake of a remake that we can!

And we had a lot of fun!Guests:

This week’s episode is a real… bomb.

We did it. We made the joke.

And not only did we make that joke, we also REMADE Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb! I don’t know that I’d have tackled a Kubrick movie, but Dillon Magrann-Wells (@DillonMW) insisted! And this was a fun, if harrowing, conversation to have!

When we remake these movies, the first question I am often asked is “Does this movie hold up?” And I can tell you that Dr. Strangelove holds up a little TOO well…

You’ve heard of Sunset Boulevard! (The movie, not the road. Although, well, also the road!) But did you know that Billy Wilder saw that movie as a pair with his 1978 movie Fedora?

This week’s guest Genah Redding (@GenGenLove) did! Genah has a podcast called Sweet Sweet Garbage (@GarbageSweet) where they talk about thrillers! So who better to guest for this discussion about a Billy Wilder movie?

Fedora is a difficult movie to find, but it’s worth a watch! Check it out because we have LOTS of ideas!

Ideal Remake is BACK for Season 4! And we’ve joined the podcasting network Dueling Genre! How will this affect the show? Not at all! But I’m excited to collaborate with other Dueling Genre shows in the future/past depending on when you’re listening!

And for this week’s episode, I thought why not talk about a movie that I have lived? Because I, too, travelled from Los Angeles to Tucson for my 10 year high school reunion! It wasn’t as funny. And I wish I knew about the post-its joke. But luckily Joshua Koffman is back as a guest to help guide me through Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion!

How will we update this one? Is Tucson accurately portrayed? All this and more… so check it out!

Because 2020. How else could we possibly have ended this year?

It was also just the holidays, and what better way to celebrate than by remaking the movie we’re all experiencing… HOME ALONE!

And I wanted to remake this movie with a group of friends that I only just met this year! Matthew Willets, (matthewwillets on Instagram), Valerie Vasilas (@ThisIsValerieV), and Cassie Soliday (@cassiesoliday)! These three people helped make my 2020 tolerable, and I’m so glad to have them on the podcast today!
