Ideal Remake

The year is 2021. A horrible disease sweeps across the world. Huge chunks of the population have completely lost faith in society and the government. Massive corporations hire private armies to do whatever they want and hold the health of the general public ransom. And religion is weaponized for the use of the powerful against the weak.

And that’s basically the plot for 1995’s Keanu Reeves movie… JOHNNY MNEMONIC!! And to help me remake this horrible harbinger of what was to come is returning guest Kevin Mosteller (@KMostellerMusic)!

This movie is actually a lot of fun if you don’t think about how screwed we all are! Yaaaay!!

Freddy Krueger strikes again! For the… 33rd time? And also possibly the 34th time if you’ve listened to the episode and are now reading the show notes!

It’s another Halloween Ideal Remake special! That means Scott Carelli (@ScottCarelli) is the true host this time and he’s brought on his writing partner and friend Nick Jimenez (@nickmjimenez)!

They two amazing writers put together some fantastic pitches for a way to remake and reboot the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise! In fact, they had SUCH good pitches that we’re going to have a hard time going with just one!

It’s spooky month here at Ideal Remake and your host, Sam Gasch (@SamGasch) is not all that great at spooky/horror movies. Luckily he has help from guest host Scott Carelli (@ScottCarelli)! And Scott knew that the right person to bring in a movie that neither he or Sam had EVER heard of was Pat Driscoll (@patdsez)!

And that’s why, today, for episode 101, we’re talking about the movie DEMONS!!

Demons is a gore-centric, Italian, spaghetti horror movie! Did Sam know what that meant going in? Absolutely not! But Pat and Scott are here to clear it all up and remake this movie is the brilliant splash of carnage that it deserves!

This is episode 100 of Ideal Remake! We did it!! WOOOO!!!

Thank you all for taking the time to listen to all the fun movies I’ve made with MANY fantastic guests over the years! It’s been an absolute treat getting to make this podcast and I hope to continue making it for a long time to come!

For this auspicious occasion I brought on three amazing returning guests! Dianne Bloom (@dibster), Meme Darling (SeeItOnTuesday on IG), and Chris Lord (@lordopher). The Terminator is a movie that is that rare movie that has been all three of the Ideal Remake specifications. It has been, will be, AND should be remade!

And remaking it was an absolute blast! I hope you all enjoy!

I was impressed with us that we kept this remake to under the runtime of the original! I sat down with Timm Talk’s (@TimmTalkPod) Cameron Dexter (Camdexter_adventures on IG) to remake AVATAR!!

Cameron is a super fan of the movie (seriously! He speaks Na’vi!). I haven’t seen Avatar since it was in theaters in 2009. And together we figured out what will happen when this movie inevitably gets remade! Oh sure, we’re getting four sequels over the next few years, but eventually they’ve GOT to go back and take a look at that first one again, right? … RIGHT??

We talked about language and respect for other cultures and mining and jokes and I am SO proud of what we accomplished! The one thing we forgot to say, so I’m saying it now, is that in our version, the Na’vi will wear actual clothes.

We’re diving DEEP on this week’s episode of Ideal Remake! No, deeper than that. Deeper than that too. WAY deeper than that! Oh well now that’s too deep…

Tom Loveman (@tom_loveman) from the Writer’s Group Therapy podcast returns so that we can remake Jame’s Cameron’s 1989 movie, The Abyss!

In the surprise of the century, Sam had never seen this movie, but is glad that now he has! It’s so many different movies in one movie! And you can’t take any of the movies out of this movie because then it wouldn’t be this movie!

So make sure your pressure gauge is set correctly because we don’t want anyone getting the bends or going psychotic and waving nukes around! Both would be bad!

Let’s get to remakin’!

In brightest day, in blackest night, no bad movie shall escape our sight. Let those who worship bad studio notes, beware our power! We’ll make this Green Lantern movie right!

That’s right we are remaking this AWFUL Green Lantern movie! Who’s fault is this? Doesn’t matter! But Cass Fredrickson (@darkheartedrose) and Normal Mitchell (@nkmitch42) are here to help us have the Green Lantern movie the world has always wanted but never gotten!

Will we give Sinestro something to do? Will we be able to look away from Hector Hammond’s lack of personality? Will Parallax see the “No Smoking” sign? All this and more on this week’s episode!

This time we’re taking a look at a classic Humphrey Bogart noir. Is Dixon Steele the killer? And even if he’s not… is he still safe to be around?

Dianne Bloom (@Dibster) returns to Ideal Remake to discuss one of her favorite movies and the movie she’s been suggesting for this show since Season 1!

Well we finally did it! This noir is an absolutely gorgeous masterpiece. And we’re getting our grubby fingerprints all over it. Why? Because tragically it is just as relevant today as it was when it first came out!

Here at Ideal Remake…. we walk a different path…

No? That was just a memorable line to me? Fine.

The time has come for us to discuss the 2003 comic book, action spectacular, THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN! This movie came out when I was 15 and I LOVED IT. And I sorta still do? It’s silly and bad and all that, but I own it on DVD and I ain’t getting rid of it now!

To discuss this oft-forgotten piece of our childhoods is returning guest Chris Lord (@Lordopher) from the Timm Talk podcast! (@timmtalkpod)

We’re assembling a team for nefarious reasons of our own, so come on down and listen! We promise we won’t betray you or nuthin….

After all, everyone just wants the pink elephant. Don’t we?

We’re stepping into the light and risking our skin melting off to talk about this week’s remake… DARKMAN! This Liam Neeson, Frances McDormand, Sam Raimi movie was little-known to me, but I should have expected that returning guest Kevin Mosteller (@KevMostStellar) would be a big fan!

This is Sam Raimi’s first big budget movie and he makes the most of it! We had so much fun remaking this movie that we COMPLETELY forgot to mention the helicopter chase! Which is BANANAS!! This movie is nuts. You should go watch it right now and then listen to this remake!
