A well-known apologist, Trent Horn discusses his well-researched and articulate book “The Case for Catholicism” where he addresses the Protestant objections to the Catholic teachings on Mary, purgatory, justification, and Tradition. In today’s episode, Trent not only talks about his book and what makes it unique, but he also touches on a couple of the responses to these objections to give listeners a taste of a much larger commentary in the book. We highly encourage people to purchase this book if they want to have a more fruitful discussion with their Protestant brothers and sisters. We pray for them and ourselves as we continue to encourage them to join us in the fullness of truth and into full communion with the Church established by Jesus Christ.

There has been a lot of commentary about Chrispher Nolan’s The Odyssey, but few of these commentators have thought as much about Odysseus as today’s guest—Fr. Augustine Wetta.

Fr. Wetta believes that The Odyssey is an “brilliant masterpiece.” And in today’s episode, he defends this conclusion by discussing the critical scenes as well as overarching themes in the movie like Zeus’s Law and the gods themselves. He also unpacks the character of Odysseus and points out the notable flaws of Odysseus’s character. Fr. Wetta has also adapted the character of Odysseus in his own book “The Eighth Arrow” which took fourteen years to complete and has even been regarded as better than Tennyson by the head of the Library of Congress. Fr. Wetta hopes that his novel is worthy of his students who are often left to consume subpar fantasy that he believes does little to educate or edify. We hope you enjoy this episode and purchase Fr. Wetta’s book to continue enjoying great works of fiction.

Dr. Robert Reilly is the celebrated author of “America on Trial”—a book that looks at the American founding with a critical eye. This book addresses many of the criticisms of the American experiment, specifically those raised by conservatives and Catholics. Ultimately, Dr. Reilly highlights the truly exceptional nature of our founding and its ancient and medieval roots. In today’s episode, Dr Reilly revisits some of these criticisms and addresses in detail the common and mistaken belief that the founding of America was simply an Enlightenment project like the French Revolution. With a more accurate understanding of our founding just 250 years ago, Dr. Reilly hopes to encourage greater patriotism and respect for our founders.

From the original conquistadors and missionaries to the persecution of Catholics in the 20th century, the history of Catholicism in America is multifaceted. So today, we are grateful to have Dr. Christopher Shannon to join Andrew Petiprin to discuss this checkered history in America which he records in his book American Pilgrimage.
They begin by discussing the central importance of Our Lady of Guadalupe and then work sequentially through the centuries as they highlight the various roles that the certain Catholic individuals as well as the shifting Catholic culture shaped America today. We are blessed to Catholics in America, and we pray for our country on this special anniversary of its founding.

Mariele Courtois is a college professor at Benedictine college and part of the Vatican Dicastery for Culture and Education’s AI Research Group. And in today’s podcast, she joins Ben Eriksen to begin unpacking Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical in light of the practical circumstances facing individuals today. They begin by highlighting a few themes from “Magnifica Humanitas” that have they find most relevant and insightful. Then they unpack some of these principles by discussing if and how AI should be used in our everyday lives. Is it wise to have AI draft emails, conduct research, or produce art? What considerations should we weigh when making these decisions? While more conversations like this are needed, the two hope that this discussion can continue to inform the viewers as we all seek to navigate the changing landscape of the modern century.

Many are aware of today’s “crisis of masculinity,” and so we are grateful to be joined by Doug Barry and Daniel O’Connor to discuss how men can become spiritually and physically prepared for the big and small battles ahead. After assessing the current state of masculinity in our culture, they offer words of encouragement and wisdom on how to become a better and more Godly man. They encourage men to take responsibility and to take action both in their personal life and as leaders in their family. This requires preparedness, training, and spiritual as well as physical exercise. This uplifting discussion is a great source of encouragement for men who want to grow stronger and closer to God.
