This podcast episode discusses the three primary assessment and evaluation types for teachers: diagnostic, formative, and summative.

• Diagnostic assessment is used to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses at the beginning of a school year or course to inform instruction. This can take many forms, such as diagnostic tests, skills assessments, and individualized learning plans.
• Formative assessment is used to monitor and improve student learning in real-time. It's an ongoing process that helps teachers gauge whether students understand the material being taught and allows students to receive feedback and adjust their learning strategies. Examples include quizzes, class participation, and exit tickets.
• Summative assessment is used to evaluate student learning at the end of a unit or school year; it often takes the form of a test or final project.
  The episode also provides examples of different assessments and evaluations that can be used in the classroom.

Managing your time as a teacher is not easy. But if you know what to do, it can be done!

Teaching is an important job that requires lots of energy and focus. It also takes a lot of planning and preparation. Here are some tips for managing your time as a teacher.

Set Goals.
Setting goals is one of the first things you should do when starting out with teaching. You need to set goals so that you know where you want to go. If you don’t set goals, then you won’t know how to reach them.

Plan Ahead.
It’s also important to plan. This means planning lessons, assignments, and projects before you start teaching. Planning ahead will help you stay organized and keep track of everything you need to do.

Prioritize.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the number of things you need to do each day, prioritize them. Start with the most important tasks first. Then, organize your schedule so that you can complete those tasks efficiently. Finally, make sure you have enough time to accomplish everything you need to do each week.

Create a Schedule.
You should also set aside some time every day to work on your lesson plans. This will help you stay organized and focused throughout the school year. It will also give you an opportunity to review your lessons before class starts.

I started using reflective journals in my math classroom a couple of years ago and now it’s one of my favorite things to use in math class. 

If you’ve never used reflective journals in your math classroom before, I hope this episode will convince you to try them out! I’m covering what math reflective journals are, how they will help you evaluate your students, how to structure them, and how to introduce them to your class.

How do you teach two grades in your math class at the same time?

This episode is all about how to approach teaching math in a split-grade classroom. 

These are my suggestions and strategies for teaching a split-grade class without constantly feeling like you’re doing two jobs at once. None of us have time for that! 

You don’t have to double your workload to teach a split-grade classroom. I want to show you how to keep your workload the same as it would be if you were teaching a straight grade. You might have to tweak things here and there, but I promise you don’t have to start from scratch for each grade. 

Teaching math to your split grade is like a train. You will pick up students along the way, let them off when their time comes, and keep going with those who can. What does that look like in your classroom? You’ll have to tune in to the episode to find out!

I’m taking you through my process of putting together a bulletin board and teaching you how to plan it out in advance so that you know everything will fit in the space that you have. 

Creating a mockup to scale is the simplest way to plan out your board, and you can use software to make it even easier. It will save you a ton of time because you know exactly what your board will look like before you start putting it up. 

I’m covering everything from planning color, text, shapes, and space. With a little help from this episode, you’ll be able to put your boards together faster than ever.
