During his rowing career he was fortunate to spend several summers rowing competitively for clubs in both Seattle and New York. After he graduated, he spent two years at Davis coaching rowing and then coached the Varsity Women's Rowing Team at Santa Clara University for six years. In 2016, he was awarded in Guinness World Records for ocean rowing including the 4 members of his team.
