Whew! The past couple of weeks has been hard with my son gone to visit his dad. It's quiet in my house and I have been alone with my thoughts... which can be terrifying. But it's also been a great reminder about how important it is to do some real self care.
Not the trendy kind where you take bubble baths and long strolls through Target to solve your problems - but the real kind, where you dig deep and try to heal.
It's not easy but it is so important to do and, in reality, self care is truly messy. Learning to love and care for yourself after you have had a traumatic experience is hard.
One way I have overcome a lot is by learning my Enneagram personality type. I know these things can be controversial but learning this has done so much for me in understanding who I am and why I operate in the way that I do. Because I have learned these personality traits I can recognize the positives, learn to adjust the negatives, and use this information to heal when moving forward.
It's not perfect, and never will be, but it's so necessary to do the work to move forward and grow.
I hope this episode encourages you to dig into messy self care and learn to love yourself the way you were always meant to.
You ever get tired of answering so many questions about WHY you do the things that you enjoy? WHY you make the decisions you are making? Sometimes it can be so frustrating to feel like you have to constantly explain yourself but, guess what? "Because I want to" is a perfectly acceptable answer and the only reason you need to give.
On this week's episode we chat about how these questions from people can cause you to second guess your decisions and that it is totally okay to be confident in your decisions even when other around you may question them.
Time to move forward - where do we start? I remember feeling so overwhelmed with this when I had to start over post divorce. Let's be honest, I still feel that way often but it's far more manageable now when using these tactics:
1. Write it all down. Some people call this a brain dump. Get everything OUT of your head and somewhere that you can actually see it. Just that simple step can help tremedously.
2. Rank these things in order of importance. What is the most important? What needs to happen now? What can happen tomorrow/next week/next year?
3. What is ONE thing you can do today to get closer to your goal? Bite sized pieces here.
Now that you have your one thing - can you break this down further?
For example: my number one was to find a job. Then I broke that down even further - what type of job? Salary? Benefits? What does my schedule look like?
It took me three different jobs to find something that fit everything I wanted in a career. You may not get it on the first try but don't ever stop until you find exactly what you are looking for! Life is too short to settle.
Did this help you at all? I would love to hear your feedback here:

Two years agoI packed up my life and moved back home, into my parents house, after deciding to get a divorce. It's a decision I never wanted to have to make but it was my only option. Relationships take two people who want to do everything to make it work, and unfortunately I was the only one who wanted to try.
So I sent my mom a text and let her know what was going on. I knew that once I sent that text things were going to start to happen and I would be headed home - once mom knows, that's it!
I had never felt so low in my life. I was scared, embarrassed, and mad at myself for even being in that situation in the first place. I was 28 years old and I had given up everything for my relationship. I was away from my family, left my career, and doing everything for someone who didn't care about me at all.
I thought leaving was going to be the hard part, over the last two years I have had to take a real look at myself and come to grips with the decisions I made that put me in that situation. Decisions that were for other people, and not myself. Decisions that were influenced heavily by society, and not trusting my gut.
In my lowest of lows I sent that text to my mom with one second of strength - trusting myself to do what I knew what the right choice but was also going to be the most difficult and devastating.
Sometimes when your back is against the wall like that you have no other option but to trust yourself. But sometimes that is the hardest thing to do. You might not feel strong, confident, or bold in that moment but finally deciding to trust yourself is one of the boldest things you can do.
That decision is the catapult that brought me here and I am so thankfully you have decided to listen to my story and join me on this journey. We are going to dive into a lot of what I have learned in the past 10 years and I hope that you will find resources and the courage to be bold along the way!

Welcome to BOLDish! Confused? Probably!
I changed it up... well... I didn't actually change it - I decided to follow through with my original vision for this podcast. When I first started I had a BIG dream to create a podcast and community for people making bold moves so we could have a place for motivation, inspiration, and actual resources to help us along the way.
But I got overwhelmed and scared and second guessed everything so I put out a podcast I didn't love. STORY OF MY LIFE - falling back into old patterns, "safe" choices, and not going for it because.. well, "what if?"
Instead of forcing myself forward I decided to stop and just go for it. Because that's what this is all about... one bold move can change everything.
I hope you will hang on for the ride! I don't have it figured out yet, I'll probably mess up and doubt myself A LOT along the way, but that's how life is right?

Today is my son's birthday and I am officially the mom of a three year old! I don't know how it happened (because let's face it.... I still feel like a child most days) but it happened and here we are.
Reflecting back on his little life made me think about how I used to feel so guilt for not being a mom who loved the newborn stages. Don't get me wrong, I have always loved my son, but I am really loving each stage more and more as he gets older. It's SO much more fun and I miss those newborn days less and less.
It got me thinking that MAYBE our guilt and shame come from not embracing who we truly are? MAYBE we are so worried about being the mom/parent that everyone else says we should be that we are putting unrealistic expectations on ourselves which lead to the guilt and shame.
The world needs all kinds of people and it's totally okay if you are different from the person next to you - you don't need to feel guilty about that!
Oh hi! It's been a few weeks and life was insane.
If you listened to Episode 4 you know my car got broken into and that started a spiral of chaos - shortly after my son got sick (had to go to ER because he spiked a 103.2 fever) then a week later I got sick, AND we were moving from our apartment to a townhouse during all of that..... lots of stairs, lots of boxes, lots of cleaning. We turned in the keys to our old place last week and I finally feel like I have recovered.
During this time the podcast was on my mind a lot but was put on the back burner and I almost didn't start it up again. I had missed a few weeks and felt like it wasn't perfect, so why do it?
Are you someone who will stop reaching for a goal or stop doing something if you don't get it right the first time? I am - and I am tired of it! I have missed out on so much because of it - no more.
MAYBE from now on we start to tell ourselves that making progress is actually where the perfection lies - not doing something "right" the first time. Maybe who we become in the process is far more important than things looking "perfect" from the outside looking in.
Thank you for tuning in today!! I am back - and I'm sticking around for awhile, even if it isn't perfect. Who really cares, right?

Last week my car got broken into while I was running into a Starbucks to pick up my mobile order and that ish sucks so bad.
I left my work bag in the passenger side floor board and in the time it took for me to get inside and pick up my order, my window was shattered, and my stuff was gone.
Of course when that happens a million things run through your mind and WHY? Why did I leave my stuff? Why did this have to happen to me? I should be able to run inside for coffee without someone being an asshole.
But that isn't the world we live in, so I take the situation and do my best to learn from it and empower myself for next time.
It got me thinking about other BIG things that happen in life: toxics situations, toxics relationships, decisions made, and how sometimes we deal with people who really could not care less about us and how their actions impact our lives.
When we are dealing with situations like this it's important for us to recognize those types of people and learn from the past to protect ourselves in the future.
While it is important to address that it is NEVER our fault when people choose to harm us - we can take bake control over these situations, no matter how difficult they are.
Welcome back to the I'm Overcoming Podcast - Today's episode has some tactical tips you can use when you're feeling overwhelmed with what to do when you're forced to make a huge transition in life. It can be extremely difficult to see a way out for a future when you feel like your back is against the wall but it is possible to thrive, even when you feel like nothing is in your control.
First - get everything that is in your head OUT. Make a list of all of the things you feel like you need to do and all of the dreams you have.
Next - prioritize that list. What do you need to do today? Focus on that before worrying about something you don't need to worry about until days/months/years from now.
Find an outlet - what is a way you can relieve stress or take some time to yourself? You are going to need something that is just for you so you can take a break when needed.
Finally - track your wins!! When you feel like you're in a situation where you'll never get ahead it is so important to remind yourself of how far you have come!

On this episode we talk about what it's like to have to redefine your life after everything you thought you wanted falls apart.
At the beginning of 2021 I started listening to the EmpowerHER podcast by Kacia Fitzgerald. She's a pretty awesome human and a topic she talks about often is falling in love with the process, not just what the process produces. That concept changed everything!
It finally clicked that I had been so focused on the outcome (what the process produces) that I didn't even stop to think if I liked what I was doing and who I was becoming along the way.
When you stop to think about where you are in life do you feel stuck? Have you "checked all the boxes" only to realize you still aren't happy? Are you ignoring red flags and just pushing through to meet whatever goal "they" say you should want to meet?
When you learn to focus more on the process, and not just what the process produces, you might just find that it is the most important part!
I challenge you today - take a look at what you are doing. Do you like where you are? Is it aligned for your goals (not anyone else's)? If times are tough do you feel like they will be worth it in the end or are these tough times really a red flag telling you to stop and redefine what you want?
Learn to love yourself enough to make a change for what is truly right for you. Love yourself enough to know you did the best you could in the past but it's time to redefine life for the better.
Thank you for tuning in this week! I can't wait to talk again next week!
