In Matthew 23, Jesus turns from answering the religious leaders' questions to warning the crowds about the scribes and Pharisees, who tie heavy burdens on people's shoulders and do all their deeds to be seen by others. False religion says carry more, do more, and be seen, but Christ lifts burdens, makes His people brothers, and shows true greatness by stooping to serve, ultimately by giving His life on the cross. Whoever humbles himself and trusts in Christ alone will be exalted.

Those who labor in the gospel ought to be marked by joy, not apathy.
