Making mistakes can be frustrating, but it is even more frustrating when it is something that you know you can do, have done before, but in the moment, when it is most important that you get it right that you mess up.

Athletes deal with problem all of the time. There are actions that they can do over and over again in practice, but when they get in to a game setting they mess up.

Often times when we think of the mental game of performance we are only thinking athletic terms, but the same thing can happen with any task we are going to take. The moment the stakes are raised it is easy for the pressure of the moment to get the best of us.

This week in the podcast I have a conversation with performance coach Dr. Tom Hanson. Over the last three decades Tom has worked with countless professional athletes and top level collegiate athletes.

When it comes to performance it doesn't matter if you in a stadium in front of tens of thousands of people or you are making a small presentation to your co-workers, if you are worried about the outcome your nerves can get the best of you.

This also means that the tools and techniques that Tom uses with top level athletes are also going to help us when we need to perform at our best.
