Oh, this is gonna be good. Estrella Ranch and Sour Cream chips from Sweden, Ballreich’s Bar-B-Q potato chips from Ohio, and Lay’s of Thailand’s BBQ Prik Zag Zeed all in one episode? Yep! They all did well during the week which always bodes well for sandwiching.

Sure, you’ve had BBQ Prik Zag Zeed chips before, right? I mean, who hasn’t? Just kidding, have never heard of the dish let alone these chips. So I am going into this completely blind, well, taste blind. I can still see is what I’m getting at.

This week we start things off in Sweden. Well, I mean, I’m not in Sweden but the chips I’m reviewing today are definitely from there. Sent over by Jon (thank you), these are somewhat like Sun Chips here in the United States as far as form goes. And I’m ok with that as long as the flavor is tasty. Let’s find out!

This week I took on all three Illegal Chips flavors from MSCHF. But only two made it through to Can It Sandwich? (sorry Horse Meat flavor). It will be interesting to see if these two shine in a sandwich or just fade away.

Today, we’re rounding out MSCHF Illegal Chips week with their Horse Meat flavored potato chips. Horse meat is something few in the U.S. would dare try if it were available (I know I wouldn’t) yet in France, it’s still legal to eat. With that context, MSCHF created these Horse Meat flavored potato chips. Remember, there is no horse whatsoever in these chips. They are attempting to recreate the flavor with seasonings, much like many chip manufacturers do with other flavors. All of that said, I have no idea how this is going to turn out.

It’s a new year and why not kick things off with something a little different. If you're not familiar with MSCHF, it’s an app that does “drops” of limited-run…things. Think of it as part art, part commerce.

Not too long ago they dropped a line of potato chips with flavored that attempt to replicate “illegal foods.” None of the potato chips I’m reviewing this week are made with the flavor on the bag because, well, that would be illegal. And, to be honest, I wouldn’t try if they were (well, maybe the Fugu).

The first one up is Casu Marzu, which is a Pecorino cheese from Sardinia. Sounds innocent enough, right? Oh, I forgot to mention that the cheese, which is also illegal in Sardinia itself, has live maggots in it. Yeah.

Yes, all the potato chips I reviewed this week came from my man, Chad (thank you!). And they ran the gamut from pretty good to quite tasty. I’d imagine they’ll all sandwich well but there’s really only one way to find out, right?

Yes, this year I am changing things up a bit. You might recall that last year I went over the 21 5-star chips. Well, this year there were 32 so instead of going through all of them, I decided to a top 5 with 5 honorable mentions.
