  • Remembering the chaos that ensued at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago 50 Years ago.
50 years ago this week, thousands of people converged in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention. There was a mix of anti-war protestors, neighborhood kids railing against authority- it was the '60s after all, national journalists and of course convention delegates. There was also a large police presence around the hotel that hosted those delegates, as well in Lincoln Park. What ensued is enshrined in the now famous chant, "the whole world is watching", as the cops battled with protestors and even people who happned to be in the vicinity of the mayhem.  In this podcast episode we bring you some of the voices that were on the ground during those tumultuous days. We also hear from a Chicago reporter who recently sifted thru letters praising Richard J. Daley for his actions against protestors.

  • Too Many Ubers? Chicago Could Cap The Number Of Rideshare Vehicles
From 2015 to 2018, the number of vehicles in Chicago providing 4 or more trips per month jumped from around 15,000 to around 65,000. They provide convenience for commuters, a source of revenue for drivers, and often operate in neighborhoods where cabs don’t. But that’s a lot of additional cars on Chicago’s already-congested roads. Chicago Tribune’s Mary Wisniewski talks about the give-and-take of ridesharing, and  the alderman who are proposing caps on rideshare vehicles.

  • Senior Curator Naomi Beckwith Brings New Vision to MCA
America’s top art museums and galleries have, by and large, ignored people of color from artists and curators to senior leadership. But now the tide is changing, and more and more mainstream museums are looking to include more people of color in an effort to attract more diverse visitors.
