Qatar, a strong supporter of Hamas, is basically an enemy of Israel.Egypt has a peace agreement with Israel, although a cold one, and is basically an enemy of Hamas. Both Qatar and Egypt demand a key role as mediators in the conflict.

Finally, After 7 weeks of war some of the hostages may be released from captivity.
