The UConn-Tennessee rivalry defined women’s college basketball, elevating the sport to new heights with legendary matchups between Rebecca Lobo and Chamique Holdsclaw, Diana Taurasi and Candace Parker, Geno Auriemma and Pat Summitt. After years of dominance, heated battles, and even controversy, the rivalry went cold for 13 years, only returning in 2020. But with Tennessee still trying to regain its former dominance, the question remains—will this matchup ever return to its full glory? UConn leads the all-time series 17-9, including four national championship victories, but for the rivalry to truly matter again, Tennessee needs to get back to being a national title contender. With their next game set for February 6th, 2024, we’ll see if the Lady Vols are ready to take a step back toward relevancy—or if UConn will continue to dominate.
