INSULIN RESISTANCE | Eating for better blood sugar

Did you know that most pregnant women don’t meet their nutrient requirements?

And that this can impact blood sugar in a big way? 

Women with gestational diabetes seem to have lower quality diets and higher rates of micronutrient deficiencies. 

IMPORTANT NOTE - I’m by no means implying that developing GD  is solely to do with diet, or that all women with GD eat badly, or that you did anything wrong. 

And when I say “lower quality diets”, I’m not just talking about the common beliefs that eating too many carbs or junk food leads to GD (sick of hearing this!).

When we look at the research, it’s more complex.

 For example, you could be eating a balanced diet but missing some key nutrients, which could potentially impact the way your body handles glucose. 

There are lots more things to unpack.

The upside? This research gives us clues into what we need to be focusing on in our diet, and the best way to eat to reduce insulin resistance and achieve more balanced blood sugar.

Plus, optimising your diet right now will go a long way to giving your baby the best start in life, AND get you feeling fit, healthy and confident in your body.
