  • S3E15 – Alex Millet and Lindsey Bartel of Brandtrust
    Welcome back to Intellicast! On this episode of Intellicast, Brian Lamar and Andrew DeCilles are joined by Alex Millet and Lindsey Bartel of the research and strategy firm, Brandtrust.
    They dive into how Alex and Lindsey got started their start in market research, and what led them to Brandtrust. This leads to a discussion around the history of brand trust and what makes them unique in the market research industry.
    Alex and Lindsey then give the guys some insight on Emotional Inquiry and Narrative Inquiry, Brandtrust’s unique research methodologies. Emotional Inquiry is a unique qualitative methodology that helps brands get deep, rich insights. Narrative Inquiry is a unique methodology that blends both qualitative and quantitative research methods. It is really interesting!
    Brian, Lindsey, and Alex then discuss how the Coronavirus has impacted Brandtrust and them personally.
    In the second half of the episode, the guys have some fun with Lindsey and Alex and get to know them better.
    Starting off, Lindsey gives us a new rant on not being able to go to the gym.
    Then both Alex and Lindsey answer a new round of the 4 P’s. It starts with everyone giving their top 3 movies, but then devolves into a discussion on Tiger King. Getting back on track, Alex gives us what might be one of the most unexpected Prince stories yet. Finally, we introduce a new P, pandemic, and learn about Lindsey and Alex’s quarantine life!

  • S3E14 – ESOMAR, Insights Association, Press Conferences, and Board Games
    Welcome back to Intellicast! Brian Lamar and Producer Brian kick off the show discussing how going virtual has been going, and if each other has gone stir crazy yet. They also touch on the adjustments both the industry is making as a majority of people are working from home, as well as the changes they have noticed in their neighborhoods.
    In the next segment, the guys discuss the latest news around COVID-19, including the new stimulus bill and how some of the announced components may impact those in market research. They also discuss the daily press conferences, particularly Ohio and Kentucky, and the new nicknames that they have been given.
    After the COVID-19 update, the guys dig into some market research news. First, they talk about the new partnership between ESOMAR and MRWeb for listing job opportunities. Then they discuss the Melanie Courtright and the Insight Associations’ lobby efforts in Washington to get assistance for the industry.
    In the final segment of the podcast, the guys try and have some fun. Brian Lamar gives his assessment of the new hot documentary on Netflix, Tiger King. Since both guys are spending a lot more time inside, they give their top 3 board games.

  • S3E13– Trying To Talk Anything But The Coronavirus
    Thanks for tuning in to this episode of Intellicast! In this episode, Brian Lamar and Producer Brian, talk a variety of topics and try to find stories that don’t have to do with the Coronavirus.
    The guys start off the episode talking about the many different COVID-19 research and resources that the market research industry has put out over the last week.
    Moving into the market research news, the guys touch on the recent S4 Capital 2019 results, as well as some statements made by Sir Martin Sorrell in a recent Sky News interview. They also touch on the announcement by the US Census that they were pausing field operations, and what the impact could be.
    The guys then turn to some more fun topics. They give a few resources out there for people to check out while they are housebound, including the daily “Home Safari” by the Cincinnati Zoo. (You can watch on their YouTube page here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE3VoxyYmyQCReOXk2ogsVg)
    Brian Lamar also gives a recap of Sunday’s ESPN The Ocho special, including his favorite wacky sport of Marble Racing. This leads into a discussion of the daily press conference that the Ohio Governor gives, and how other TV channels seem to be filling up airtime.
    This is followed up with a discussion about whether the Tokyo Olympics should be postponed (after we finished recording the announcement did come out about them being postponed).
    In the final segment of the episode, Brian Lamar gives out some of the rescheduled dates for Quirks Chicago and IIeX, which leads to a discussion on if there was the same speaker line-up, would you attend a virtual conference.

  • S3E12 - The Work From Home Edition
    Thanks for tuning in to Intellicast! Today’s episode is a little different – Brian Lamar is joined virtually by Producer Brian. To kick off the episode, the guys discuss the latest news around COVID-19, including Greenbook’s projecting on the economic impact of the CPOVID-19 outbreak, WPP’s announcement for staff to work from home, and the MRBA announcement around financial support to market researchers impacted by the virus. The guys also discuss a round-up of polls on COVID-19 completed by FiveThirtyEight.
    The guys also discuss some of the actions that have taken place across the country to try and curb the spread of the virus.
    They then turn to some of the non-COVID-19 related market research news, including Jamie Baker-Prewitt’s new role at Burke, and a BuzzFeed report on Sensor Tower secretly harvesting internet activity through free VPN apps.
    Brian then dives into what may be a controversial topic for some – the soliciting of votes for the GRIT report. The conversation stems from a LinkedIn post from the CEO of Protobrand, who shared a screenshot of an email he received asking him to vote for a specific company as the most innovative on the GRIT report.     Brian and Brian then give a quick recap of the town hall that the Insights Association put on last week around COVID-19 and the impact the industry was seeing.

    Welcome back to Intellicast! We have a bit of a different episode for you this week. On the first half of the episode, Tony Brown joins Brian Lamar to talk about some of the latest news in market research. They include Cint’s new CTO, and Dynata’s new partnership with CMNTY.
    Brian any Tony then turn their attention to COVID-19 and its impact on the market research industry. They discuss what they have seen so far in terms of what others in the industry are doing, what EMI is doing, and what they have seen specifically around research, the supply chain, response rates and any potential behavior or attitudinal changes.
    Normally that would have been the end of the episode, but there were some announcements and news that happened after we finished recording, that we felt we needed to discuss. So, in the second half of our episode, Andrew DeCilles joins us to discuss COVID-19 more and some of the additional announcements we have seen. We also discuss the postponement of Quirks Chicago, and what we think will be happening in the coming few days.

  • S3E10 - Schlesinger, X4 and a Quirks Brooklyn Recap
    On this week’s Intellicast, Jason Inderhees joins Brian Lamar for a second time.
    The episode starts off with the guys discussing the postponement of the Qualtrics X4 Summit due to Coronavirus concerns, and how it might affect other upcoming conferences. They then talk about Schlesinger Groups’ acquisition of Market Cube, and what it means for the industry. And in the final news story of the week, the guys talk about Nationscape, a new public opinion research project through a partnership with USA Today, Democracy Fund and UCLA.
    In the second half of the episode, Jason gives us a recap of Quirks Brooklyn. This was Jason’s first time going to Quirks, and he was amazed by all the activities that went on around the conference. He also talks about the number of qualitative research topics and companies he encountered, including ones that promoted qualitative research as an add-on to quantitative.
    Jason also discusses his favorite session of the conference; Bad data is misinforming business decisions – How brands are uniting to ensure data quality. He was encouraged that brands are starting to demand data quality and that they are willing to pay for it.
    To close out the episode, the guys talk a couple of current events, including daylight savings time, and a visit by Intern Emma!

    Welcome back to Intellicast! In this week’s episode, Brian Lamar sits down with Jeremy Zogby, Partner at John Zogby Strategies. Jeremy talks about growing up surrounded by polling and politics, and how he knew he was going to work with his Dad, but took nine years to pursue teaching first.
    Brian and Jeremy then talk about what it was like for Jeremy to live in Prague, and the cultural differences he noticed, and how it has helped him later in his career.
    The conversation then turns to polling. They discuss the types of polling projects John Zogby Strategies works on during election season, not just around candidates, but also issues and how issues impact other areas. Jeremy also discusses what the future may hold for the organization. He also gives us some history of the Zogby organization, in what he says, “you won’t find on Wikipedia.” It is really interesting.
    Brian and Jeremy then discuss the 2020 election, the Democratic field, and who can bring the excitement factor that both Obama and Trump brought over the last few elections.
    The conversation then switches gears to podcasts, where Brian and Jeremy discuss Jeremy’s new podcast called The Zogby Report. They talk about how it got started, the tone and approach to politics it takes, and what their goals are for it going forward.
    In the final part of the interview, we get to know Jeremy on a more personal level by having him give us a research rant and answer the 4 P’s. We find out Jeremy’s hidden talent, what his favorite podcasts are, his book recommendations, and more!

  • S3E6 - A Discussion on Diversity with Damon Jones of Burke
    We have a great episode of Intellicast for you! One of our favorite guests, Damon Jones, Vice President of Telephone Operations at Burke, joins us for a second time.
    He and Brian are both involved in the Great Lakes Chapter of the Insight Association and are both members of the Diversity and Education Committee. They discuss how Damon got started with the Insights Association and his roles he has held over the last 18 years with the organization.
    The conversation then turns towards the Diversity and Education Committee, and the importance of diversity within market research, and how that topic shined at the recent GLC Winter Meeting. Damon also talks about the diversity initiatives that are going on at Burke.

    At the 30-minute mark, we switch gears and discuss another topic that Damon is passionate about, Cincinnati sports, specifically the Bengals. We talk Joe Burrow, what it could mean for fans and the city, and what should happen with a couple of other free agents. The guys then dive into Cincinnati sports in general, talking about both the Red and FC Cincinnati.
