The 2015 agreement offered Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for the country curbing its nuclear programme. But under president Donald Trump, the United States in 2018 pulled out of the deal and re-imposed harsh economic sanctions.

Immediately after the attacks of October 7, the vast majority of people supported the government's decision to pursue Hamas aggressively.
