Irish Breakdown

Wide receiver has been an issue for Notre Dame in recent seasons, but the unit has a chance to be much better this season. In part one of today's Midweek Rundown I discuss why I'm so optimistic about the 2024 receivers, and why they should be a lot better than what we've seen in recent seasons.

Rapid Fire topics include:

* ESPN.com has an article with lingering questions for each of the top 25 teams. The question they have for Notre Dame is: Are there any true stars at receiver. They mention how the Irish have not had a receiver with 500 yards since 2021. On a scale of 1 to 10...how confident are you they will have a 500-yard wide receiver this season?

* Our top candidates to be 500 yard receivers.

* Thoughts on Brian Kelly saying LSU won't "buy" players with NIL money.

* Will Marcus Freeman exceed the years and wins that Brian Kelly had at Notre Dame?

* Notre Dame men’s basketball is reportedly going to take part in a Thanksgiving week tournament in Las Vegas called the "Players Era Festival”. The event will include $1 million dollar NIL payouts for eight participating schools and players will have future earnings opportunities through long-term NIL contracts. We have thoughts on that.

* Fill-in the blank...Bryan Curtis speculated on his Press Box podcast that Tom Brady may have done his Netflix roast to basically put all the negative stuff that anyone could say about him out there now...before his TV career begins on Fox during the football season. That theory is BLANK.

* How good will this year's Notre Dame women's basketball team be?

* Listener questions about lawn care habits!

In this week's Tuesday Film Room, Bryan dives into the two big time quarterbacks on the board for Notre Dame in the 2026 class. On top of breaking down the film, we discuss what Notre Dame should do when it comes to picking between the two, and why the Irish are in a win-win with quarterback recruiting in the class.

The third part of today's show takes a deeper dive into the Notre Dame defensive line. Bryan breaks down the roster and explains why the 2024 line should be outstanding, and discusses areas that could determine the difference between a really good line - like ND had in 2023 - or if it can become an elite line. Beyond 2024 there are some questions, which are discussed. It's a key prove it year for Al Washington.

Yes, Notre Dame is closing the gap in crucial areas, but there is still plenty of work to be done. After discussing areas where the Irish need to maintain dominance, Bryan breaks down the areas where Notre Dame still needs a lot of work. Part of it is the roster, but there are still recruiting and portal areas that can improve, and the Irish have to start winning more big games.
