Irish Breakdown

Rapid Fire topics include:

* Fill-in the blank...It’s BLANK that Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and new Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn were the only NFL head coaches at Notre Dame’s Pro Day today.

* Former USC and new Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was in attendance today as well. He spent a few minutes talking with Sam Hartman at the end of Pro Day. Do you think it means anything?

* Fill-in the blank...Joe Alt is BLANK.

* Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo says automatic NCAA bids for mid-major conferences needs to be reconsidered. Izzo says while everybody likes the early upsets “I’m not sure that’s true as it goes on (in later rounds)”. Do you Buy or Sell that?

* There is continuing talk about expanding the NCAA Tournament. Do you Buy or Sell it?

* Fill-in the blank...It’s BLANK that the Dodgers and Padres opened the Major League Baseball season in Seoul Korea this week. They played games at 6am Eastern Time yesterday and today.

Notre Dame was very good on defense in 2023, but the unit can still get better. That will be a challenge after losing some very important starters. The good news is plenty of talent returns. So what should the focus be in the spring? I break down there areas where the Irish defense should focus this spring in hopes of taking things to another level.

Rapid Fire topics include:

* Benjamin Morrison had six interceptions two years ago. Xavier Watts had seven interceptions last season. Which of them will have more interceptions this season?

* Clemson has filed a lawsuit against the ACC over the conference’s media rights. We have thoughts on that.

* We rate the chances for Notre Dame women's basketball to advance to the Sweet 16, the Elite 8 and the Final Four.

* In the men’s tournament...Fill-in the blank...after UConn, San Diego State and Florida Atlantic all made the men’s Final Four last year...it’s BLANK that they are all in the same region this year.

* Caleb Williams finished his two years at USC with 210 carries for 518 yards. But if you take away the 63 times he was sacked, he would have 147 carries for 997 rushing yards and 6.8 yards per carry. Do you Buy or Sell doing away with sacks counting against a quarterback’s rushing totals in college?
