We start Rapid Fire by discussing Notre Dame's three-safety "Aztec" package that new safety Antonio Carter discussed this week.

Other topics include:

* According to a report, the Miami Hurricanes, who were supposed to visit Notre Dame next season, will not be able to play the Irish because they over scheduled their non-conference opponents. We discuss what it means for the Irish.

* Thoughts on Stanford and Cal's options as they try to stay afloat, including one suggestion from SI's Pat Forde that would involve Notre Dame.

* Muffet McGraw is sounding off on the state of college sports in the wake of conference realignment. We have thoughts on what she said.

* Colin Cowherd stuck his foot in his mouth when he listed quarterbacks he says won't win a Super Bowl.

Irish Breakdown discusses Notre Dame's quarterback room. From when was the last time we felt as good about the position, especially the starter, as we do entering 2023 to the battle between Steve Angeli and Kenny Minchey to be the No. 2 QB behind Sam Hartman. We also discuss the importance of Hartman's leadership as a graduate transfer.

Notre Dame's 2024 recruiting class has some intriguing prospects that aren't ranked all that high, but the Irish staff is very high on them. In this part of the rundown I explain the strategy involved, and how the Notre Dame staff is betting on its evaluation skills to put together the kind of roster it wants and needs to take the next step as a program.

Today's Notre Dame rundown began with a look at where the Irish are in the preseason Top 25 polls. I then discuss why most rankings are fair, but I do take issue with Joel Klatt's recent Top 25 that had the Irish lower. I then discuss reasons for concern, and to keep Notre Dame lower, but also reasons why they could exceed the preseason rankings.

We start Rapid Fire with thoughts on Notre Dame's debut at No. 13 in the preseason coaches poll.

Other topics include:

* Thoughts on Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman's weekend "it's just gear" comments about Under Armour vs Nike apparel.

* Thoughts on Notre Dame's alternate uniforms for the Navy game in Ireland.

* ESPN’s Heather Dinich says that after the fall of the Pac-12, they should consider redoing the 2024 College Football Playoff format to have the FIVE highest ranked conference champions and then the SEVEN highest ranked teams rather than the current 6+6. Do we Buy or Sell it?

* Fill-in the blank...It’s BLANK that Colorado football players have their social media handles on the back of their practice jerseys.

* Thoughts on the Cleveland Guardians' Jose Ramirez decking Chicago White Sox infielder Tim Anderson.

* Baltimore Orioles TV announcer Tim Brown has been suspended for recent on air comments. Is is warranted?

* Paul Reubens, AKA Pee Wee Herman, died last week after a battle with cancer. Where did Pee Wee show up on your radar?
