Svasath Bivasathhaa Har Kee Saevaa Madhhanyath Prabh Jaapan ||

May I serve God in my child-hood and contemplate on the Lord in the middle and end of my age.

ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

agaadhh bodhh apaar karathae mohi neech kashhoo n jaanaa ||

Your wisdom is unfathomable, O Infinite Creator. I am lowly, and I know nothing.

ਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਨ ਕਉਡੀ ਪਸੂ ਨੀਚੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥

rathan thiaag sa(n)grehan kouddee pasoo neech eiaanaa ||

Forsaking the jewel, I have saved the shell; I am a lowly, ignorant beast.

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਲਤੀ ਮਹਾ ਚੰਚਲਿ ਦੋਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰੀ ॥

thiaag chalathee mehaa cha(n)chal dhokh kar kar joree ||

I have kept that which forsakes me, and is very fickle, continually committing sins, again and again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੩॥

naanak saran samarathh suaamee paij raakhahu moree ||3||

He is All-pervading amongst all, the Architect of Destiny.

ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

maarag prabh kaa har keeaa sa(n)than sa(n)g jaathaa ||

The Lord God has created His Path, which is known in the Society of the Saints.

ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥

sa(n)than sa(n)g jaathaa purakh bidhhaathaa ghatt ghatt nadhar nihaaliaa ||

The Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny, is known in the Society of the Saints; You are seen in each and every heart.

ਜੋ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਭੰਨੈ ਘਾਲਿਆ ॥

jo saranee aavai sarab sukh paavai thil nehee bha(n)nai ghaaliaa ||

One who comes to His Sanctuary, finds absolute peace; not even a bit of his work goes unnoticed.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਏ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਹਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਤਾ ॥

har gun nidhh gaaeae sehaj subhaaeae praem mehaa ras maathaa ||

One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the Treasure of Virtue, is easily, naturally intoxicated with the supreme, sublime essence of divine love.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੧॥

naanak dhaas thaeree saranaaee thoo pooran purakh bidhhaathaa ||1||

Slave Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary; You are the Perfect Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny. ||1||
