  • Episode 185: ”The Baroque Beatles Book” - interview with Musicologist Alison DeSimone
Let's go back to 1965 and the release of The Baroque Beatles Book, "arrangements" by composer/musicologist/performer Joshua Rifkin, casting music by the Beatles in the styles of J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel. Sounds like a bad idea, right? Quite the contrary, the album was very popular and even hit the charts for a time. Join Dave as he interviews his musicologist colleague Alison DeSimone, an expert on Baroque music, and learn about this fascinating album. You can check it out here:

  • Episode 179: Songs Under the Microscope, Vol. 21 - "A World Without Love" by Peter and Gordon (written by Paul McCartney)
Let's go into the lab for a Beatles cover, this time the 1964 #1 hit "A World Without Love" by Peter and Gordon. Paul McCartney gave this song to Peter Asher, the brother of his girlfriend at the time, Jane Asher. It has all the classic McCartneyisms, from the lyrics to the music. And of course, John Lennon didn't like the first lyric!
We dig into the music, lyrics, and Chris finds his usual array of covers. Enjoy!

  • Episode 177: Beatle Friends, Vol. 2 - Hamish Stuart
We return to a series we started (and then forgot about!) last year called Beatle Friends, where we look at people who played a part in group or solo music. In this episode, we look at Hamish Stuart, best known as a member of the Average White Band and for playing with Paul McCartney from ca. 1988-1993. Stuart played on Flowers in the Dirt and Off The Ground, the Unplugged show, and the two big world tours in 1989-90 and 1993. He also played with Ringo's All-Starr Band in 2006, 2008, and 2019. Quite a long and diverse career!
