On September 18, 1952, 22-year-old Betty Shanks was walking home from a lecture when she was brutally attacked and murdered. To this day, no one has been charged with her murder. Welcome to the premiere episode of ITBR Rewatches the iconic "Queer as Folk" 2000 American TV show!

Andrew is joined with friend of the show Christian Garcia, who hosts the "That Ol' Gay Classic Cinema" podcast, and right away they question one of the iconic lines from the premiere episode of QAF: Do gay men think about sex every nine seconds? We're introduced to what will become one of the rockiest, heartwarming, and transformative relationships in TV history, Brian and Justin. What do we think about that moment when they first lock eyes? Then, we dissect the difference in age between Brian and Justin, and the beautiful friendship trio that is Michael, Emmett, and Ted.

After a night out at the club Babylon with Michael, Emmett and Ted; Brian picks up a cute guy named Justin for a night of fun, but afterwards coldly rebuffs Justin's attempts to see him again. Michael also gets lucky taking home a hunk only to be happily interrupted for a trip to the hospital after Brian learns that Lindsay and Melanie have had a baby boy, Gus.

Chris Adams, author of "Out for Blood: A Cultural History of Carrie the Musical" and co-host of the "Out for Blood: The Story of Carrie the Musical," joins Andrew in the ITBR to chat, of course, about all things Carrie! Chris reveals the origin story of his obsession with Stephen King's "Carrie" novel and how that led him to the 1988 musical. He explains that if the musical was such a Broadway flop, then why do we keep talking about it? He opens up about how he got to interview so many from the cast and creative team of both the 1988 and 2012 "Carrie" productions. He explains that for many, talking with him and Holly on their "Out for Blood" podcast was the first time they explored their feelings about being part of this now iconic cult musical. Chris and Andrew reveal that for so many in the LGBTQ+ community, there's something about Carrie's twisted fairytale narrative that speaks to feeling like an outsider.

Dr. Andrew Lear, who holds a Ph.D. in Classics from UCLA, enters the ITBR to discuss his work on male-male love in ancient Greek society. First, he explores the state of Classics departments in American universities and why ancient Greek culture/history is such a captivating subject to both students and the public. Then, he digs into the historical record of ancient Greek sexual relations between men and how this system of ancient Greek pederastia inspired future queer men, like Oscar Wilde.
