There is a sentencing reform campaign for long term offenders here in New Jersey. It's happening nationwide. The Criminal Justice System scrutinizes juveniles and Young adult offenders. Laurence Steinberg have conducted extensive studies that were relied upon by the United States supreme court. So far as it relates to how courts should sentence juveniles and young adult offenders. It is long past due for us to take a closer look at these sentencing schemes, mandatory minimums, and no early release acts that play a major role in the perpetuation of mass incarceration, nationwide and specifically right here in new jersey.

For decades the United States of America has treated teenagers and Young adults with cruel and unusual punishment. We give young adults life without parole or equivalent (50,60, and 70 years) with 30 years before seeing parole.  The united States parole system plays political ping pong with human beings. Our United States supreme court and New Jersey supreme court has passed these laws however, very few of those impacted by this law has been re-sentenced.

In this episode I sit down with my father Dewan Dennis again. Dewan updates us all on the recent news he's just received from the courts.  Dewan has been fighting for his innocence for 15 years.  Dewan was wrongly accused and convicted of murder. He was later sentenced to two life terms for a crime he did not commit. Not only were there multiple laws broken in the courtroom but these mistakes were acknowledged within the court transcripts.

In this episode Mr. Roland Amos explains in detail how he was framed and convicted of a crime he did not commit. This case was extremely interesting because not only did the lead detectives make numerous mistakes, Mr. Amos was brought to the station based on a total different charge than the crime he was eventually convicted of. The lead detective did not show up in court, and he has a history of lying to juror's. Mr. Amos was charged and convicted of a crime based of a corhearsed statement, and no DNA evidence that matched Mr. Amos. The lack of fairness and justice in that courtroom resulted in a innocent black man's life being snatched away.

In this episode justice failed to be served.  Dawan Ingram was wrongly accused and convicted for murder. During his trial, Dawan's lawyer presented the court with  witness alibi's and a ankle monitor that proved Dawan was 2 miles away from the crime when it took place.  The eyewitnesses which was a drug addict at the time, accused a different man of committing this crime during the photo array lineup. After some time passes,  the drug addict then switches the narrative and blames Mr. Dawan Ingram for a crime he did not commit. There was multiple gaps of injustice in this case.  Dawan was recently granted a evidentiary hearing . Prayerfully justice will be served.  Injustice to one is injustice to ALL.

In this episode Tyrell Jackson explains the injustices surrounding his case. In 2005 a drug addict was interrogated and persuaded by the police to blame Mr. Jackson for a crime he did not commit. Not only was this drug addict the only alleged witness to this crime but she initially told officers that the suspect was a dark skin male that was 5'5. After 4 years, in 2009 Mr. Jackson was arrested for this crime because the same alleged witness switched narratives and told officers Mr. Jackson was the suspect. The details ,DNA evidence , and photo array screams Tyrell Jackson's innocence. How can judges look past such a miscarriage of justice?

In this episode Lashawn Fitch explains the injustices surrounding his case and the importance of legal access to the courts. Lashawn has been incarcerated at New Jersey State Prison for 12 years.. for a crime he did not commit. Lashawn defended himself in court, hired a forensic team, presented the court with witnesses and alibi's yet justice was failed to be served. Lashawn is now a paralegal in New Jersey State Prison. He assists other inmates who may or may not have access to legal access, and help educate them on the law and understand legal jargon.  This episode turned into one of the most informative, raw, realest debates I've ever had.

On Monday afternoon March 1, 2021 New Jersey's state Assembly voted to pass the Mandatory Minimum bill. Bill A43-69. This bill will open so many doors to fair sentencing here in the state of New Jersey.
