The 40’s and 50’s with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Modern Jazz Quartet, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, and Mose Allison, and then we’ll take it out with Weather Report, and Cal Tjader, from the 1970’s.

Then we move to the '40s and '50s with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Modern Jazz Quartet, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, and Mose Allison, and then we’ll take it out with Weather Report, and Cal Tjader, from the 1970s.

Tonight on Jazz After Dark: From 1955-1963 we'll hear Kai Winding with J.J. Johnson, Bobby Hackett, John Lewis, Erroll Garner, Chet Baker, Gigi Gryce Quartet, Miles Davis, Elek Bacsik, McCoy Tyner, and Art Blakey. Then we'll hear 1980s performances by Archie Shepp with Horace Parlan, and Butch Thompson.

Tonight: Quintetto Ritmico di Milano, Italian jazz from the 1940s; then 1957 to 1965 with Teddy Wilson, Louis Armstrong & Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Art Pepper, Carmen McRae, Oscar Peterson, and Chico Hamilton; and then we take it out with a late-career pairing of the Dave Brubeck Quartet with Jim Hall in 2007.
