JFD Rewind Episode #2 - Dressed to Kill, The Impossible Kid, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls

Listen Later

With the world once again entrenched in what the ancient texts describe as a severe outbreak of Holiday Fever, it makes sense that other podcasters haven't had the time or fortitude to produce a new episode this Holiday week. And while it is true that your charming hosts are currently enjoying the holidays in a serene, secluded, secretive island retreat with absolutely no cannibals and/or zombies, unable to record a new show - they've also devised a clever approach to maintain a steady output of JFD-branded content for your listening enjoyment. Tricks like this are pretty much why those Junk Food Dinner guys are the critical darlings of the Goings On About Town editors at the New Yorker, among other places, and precisely why you've got something to listen to this week. So it's come to this: another Junk Food Dinner clip show. This week on Junk Food Dinner Rewind: a carefully curated collection of the finest musical selections, a Dad-Hattan Voicemail Segment, and three classic JFD reviews culled from the vaults. It's the perfect thing to listen to while avoiding all the members of your family this Holiday Season. First up! We're joined by Cory from the live magic trick sensation / podcasting endeavor Illogical Contraption to discuss some controversial points about Dressed to Kill from 1980. Snatched from the jaws of our Brian De Palma theme show, our hot takes here riled up the Internet like nothing since the Moldy Strawberries incident. They'll probably get you riled as well, unless you've already heard this one. Up next, we take a fresh look at the exploits of diminutive Fillipino action star extraordinaire, Weng Weng, with The Impossible Kid from 1982. We all enjoyed the little guy's big moves in his earlier film, For Y'ur Height Only, but will this sequel prove to be too repetitive? Or will the slavery-like reality of Weng Weng's real-life existence (exposed in a recent documentary) prove to be the element that sours our experience? One thing's for sure, nobody feels comfortable about any of this. Finally, what would a year in JFD history be without a summer filled with regrets? That's right, we return to the Ghoul Summer graveyard and dig up our review of Slaughtered Vomit Dolls from 2006. For reasons unknown to man, Parker Bowman thought this would be a great pick for the show. We're joined by "True Ghoul" Mike Dikk (from Kissing Contest) and "The Ghost Of" Mark Freado (from being a ghost) to try and figure out why (and stifle some vomit of our own). All this plus witty banter between friends, witty banter between Freados, zero Nerd Newsies, no week's DVD & blu-ray releases, absolute confidentiality, continued lack of police involvement, robot voices, musical interludes, sneezes, belches, gleeks and a little bit more!
