My Morning Jacket recently released their self-titled, ninth studio album. But for a while there, frontman Jim James didn’t know if there would ever be another MMJ record. Years of relentless touring had taken their toll, and the band took an extended break after 2015’s 'The Waterfall'. But in 2019 they reunited for four shows, and rediscovered the joy of playing together.
Just before the pandemic sent the world into lockdown the five-piece got together at 64 Sound studio in LA, and started jamming and working on ideas. Eventually those sessions became their new LP, and Jim talks about its creation in this interview.
He also talks about his upbringing in Louisville, his path into music, his experiences playing with artists like Roger Waters, and much more.
