Every time I read about wars that are written in the Bible, I always see the heart and mind of God as to how He sees things. They reveal His emotions, His thoughts and ways. In Judges chapter 4 the children of Israel were oppressed for twenty years under the wicked Canaanite King Jabin of Hazor. They cried unto God for help and soon after they came to Deborah the wife of Lapidoth for answers. She was the current Judge of Israel who sat under a Palm tree. Yet she does not answer them a word, instead she calls for Barak the commander of Israel's army to come to her.

She tells him that "God will sell Sisera in the hand of a woman." She wonders why he has not done what God has commanded him to do. Why he has tarried and not done according to the prescription of war. He told her that if she did not go with him then he would not go. So she went to war with him and the armies of Israel.

The Lord was already defeating Sisera the commander of King Jabin's army when they arrived to the plain. He fled away on foot because of a sudden flood that disabled his chariot. He fled to Jael's tent and out she came and told him to turn into her tent. She put a blanket on him, fed him "butter in a lordly dish," and he fell into a deep sleep. Jael took a workman's hammer and a tent peg nail and smote him in his temples and he died.

Then Barak came to her tent on foot and she came out to meet him. She told him to come into her tent, and showed him the dead commander. Deborah's song said, "At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead."   This woman Jael the wife of Heber fought the battle with a mantle, a cup of milk, a workman's hammer and a nail. This story is not just for women, it is for both men and women who love the Lord.

The main Person in view is God in this account. Look at what He does when He gives a charge to war. He will use His people and give them power over and against the will of the enemy. He will give them all out victory. He will give you courage, strength and power. The final words of Deborah's song will be their's that fight in the Lord's battles, and will be given the same outcome.  "So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years."

"Glory be to God, we know the end of the war. The great dragon shall be cast out and for ever destroyed, while Jesus and they who are with him shall receive the crown. Let us sharpen our swords to-night, and pray the Holy Spirit to nerve our arms for the conflict. Never battle so important, never crown so glorious." ~Charles Spurgeon

When a person prays to God to send help to them He takes it seriously. His answer of help will come in the form of many different things and ways. Prayer after all is really the cry of the heart that touches God's heart. Many people that are in hard lives and circumstances, that find no way out are those who really pray the best prayers over all.  I read this morning about Paul when he had a vision of "a man" from Macedonia standing and calling to him to come over there and help them. So he and Silas went to Macedonia right away. Paul had no idea who this man was, only that "a man" was calling him to come there.

It is apparent that though Paul and Silas had been ministering in that area and the vicinity to many people, there was no mention of any particular man.   Until they were arrested and thrown into the inner prison. "At midnight they prayed and sang praises to God." There was an earthquake and the prison doors flew open, and the jailer awakened out of sleep and was about to kill himself.  That jailer was about to kill himself with a sword, but Paul cried out to him not to do it, saying, We are all here."

Next it said, "Then the jailer called for a light," and fell down saying, "What must I do to be saved."   When he called for a light, he really was given the true light of the gospel of Jesus Christ that he was had prayed for in the Macedonian call.  In that hour he and his whole household were saved, and "they rejoiced." The next day Paul and Silas were all released.

That one prayer of "a man" who was unsaved, prayed to God to send the man Paul.  In essence,  the jailer really was the prisoner who became the "Lord's freeman." Never underestimate what God will do with you as His servant when you ask Him to use you. And never underestimate what God will do for you when you stand up and pray for Him to deliver you. "Whom the Son sets free is free indeed."

"Satan cannot deny but that great wonders have been wrought by prayer. As the spirit of prayer goes up, so his kingdom goes down. Satan's strategems against prayer are three. First, if he can, he will keep thee from prayer. If that be not feasible, secondly, he will strive to interrupt thee in prayer. And, thirdly, if that plot takes not, he will labour to hinder the success of thy prayer."  ~William Gurnall

Welcome to our first ever broadcast of the "Joanie & Brook Fellowship" episode today. There was no better way than for us to start off with Psalm 46. Which historically had to do with a war of foreign invading armies that surrounded Jerusalem. Brook begins by sharing some very deeply touching church history surrounding this particular Psalm.

During Martin Luther's day, the Bubonic plague was quickly causing deaths in the little town of Wittenberg. At that time there was an order for him to flee with his son and pregnant wife. He defied the order and chose to stay. His son nearly died in his arms. Death and disease were taking a toll on him.

Those early November weeks of the plague were definitely a difficult and bittersweet time for the Luther household. In the midst of all this affliction, the tenth anniversary of the posting of the Ninety-five Theses also passed. Some scholars have argued that it was during these weeks of plague-ridden death, risk, stress, and heartache, that Luther penned this majestic and comforting hymn Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (A Mighty Fortress is our God).

That beautiful song was written from Psalm 46. No doubt something that kept his faith alive, and strength to endure during the worst time in his life. There is a verse in this Psalm that says, "There is a river, the streams thereof shall make glad the city of God."   So we see that though the most extreme things that can happen, God will see to it that you know "there is a river" and that river has streams. Those streams are His mercies that endure forever.

"The farmer does not sift his wheat because he dislikes it, but just the opposite; he sifts it because it is precious. And thou, child of God, thy trials and changes, and constant catastrophes, and afflictions, are no proofs of want of affection on the part of the Most High, but the very contrary."  ~ Charles H. Spurgeon

**Instagram: @plainsoffaith  Sally Poulton joins me to day to share her very powerful testimony of deliverance from the deception of New Age.  She describes how she entered into it due to having had many great painful losses early on in life. How she was searching for healing and comfort. And the way the enemy cames in with offers of euphoric peace in different occult practices.

She later became a Reiki Master and still there was an emptiness that could not be filled. She had friends that were praying for her, though she did not know it at the time. All along the way, Jesus had His invisible hand upon her.   I do not want to tell the whole story here, but her deliverance was nothing short of astounding, and deeply moving. There is such a beauty in Sally, a glowing beauty of new life, and sweetness. At the same time a heavenly strength as she reaches out to those who are practicing New Age in it's many forms.

I was personally deeply moved at hearing her tell all the details of how Jesus revealed Himself to her. Including the day she was baptized, and delivered from evil spirits. Let her testimony sink deep into your ears and into your heart too.   She has a way of telling the story that causes you to see it clearly. To see Jesus in all His glory as "The Great Shepherd of the sheep." Who stops at nothing to save one person and heal them completely. Giving them a brand new life and rest from a painful past. Including the joy and expectation of heaven.

"We cannot rely on ourselves, for we have learned by bitter experience the folly of self-confidence. We are compelled to look to the Lord alone. Blessed is the wind that drives the ship into the harbor. Blessed is the distress that forces us to rest in our God." ~Charles Spurgeon

Have you ever found yourself in an impossible situation? Perhaps you are anticipating entering into an impossible situation coming in the near future. I remember there were a couple of times in my own life where I found myself in impossible situations, having no way out. No arm to lean upon, no money, no home, everything wiped out.

Even in my obliteration, exhaustion and great fear, there was a remembrance of many things I experienced in life where God delivered me. They were notable deliverances with miracles and wonders that I will never forget. All I had was my Bible, and I would read it through veils of thick waterfall-like tears. His word was all I had and clung to with all my heart, and for my very life. I can tell you that my "impossibles" became the "possibles" from God. When there is no way out, He makes ways out, but they are His ways, and not ours. I tell you if you are in an impossible situation, and have cried bottles of tears, and have made your voice heard in heaven, be assured He will answer you.

Your cries for mercy are not falling upon deaf ears. Your life is not being overlooked by a monotone, unfeeling God. The truth is God is always on the move, and "working out salvation in the midst of the earth."  He sees you. He hears you. He loves you. He sent His Son to die for you. He made an everlasting covenant with you by the Blood of Jesus His Son. The God of the Israelites is your God today.

What He did for them is a guarantee of what He will do for you. There is nothing to hard for Him, only us. The Israelites were not transported over the sea, but through it. But He went with them through it and brought them over to the other side. Then "He marched with them through the wilderness," and "fed them with manna that their predecessors never ate."

Give God room, and follow Him, read the word and feed your soul. The more you turn to Him, the stronger you will become in prayer, faith and believing. It is not about any angle or "spiritual trick of the trade." It is about believing for everything you have asked Him, and then letting Him do it His way. Just watch and He will do it. And if you have no faith left, no worries.

"Even if you have not faith, He abideth faithful for He is not able to deny Himself." And "you are in Christ and Christ is God." Your Savior.  He will deliver you for His namesake, because it cannot be that there will ever be one of His that will arrive in Heaven and say for all eternity, "I cried unto the Lord for deliverance but He never helped me, He forgot me."  No way. God's own name and testimony is at stake, and He will save and rescue you because you cried to Him for mercy.

"A little faith will bring your soul to heaven; a great faith will bring heaven to your soul." Charles Spurgeon

There are three different times in the gospel the words, "Yea, Lord" were spoken after Jesus asked a question. To the blind men, "Believest thou that I am able to do this?" They responded, "Yea, Lord." They then immediately received their sight. Their lives were forever changed forever, as well as all those that were there that day.

Lazarus died and Martha said to Jesus, "If thou had been here our brother had not died." "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. Then their brother was raised to life. Their lives were changed forever, including all those that were there that day. Still lives are being changed by this powerful act.

Then finally Peter. After Jesus resurrection, He asked Peter three times if Peter loved Him. Twice Peter responded, "Yea, Lord." The third time Peter did not say yea, Lord, but pressed in and said "YOU KNOW all things Lord, YOU KNOW I love you." Then He recommissioned his life and showed him his death at the end of his life that would glorify God. Then said "Follow Me." His life changed from that time on and he became a new man. Lives were changed forever, and continue to do so.

To the blind men: "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" Yes, Lord. To Martha: "Do you believe this word that I have spoken to you? Yes, Lord. To Peter: Do you love Me?" Yes, Lord.

How does this relate to you in the hard things? When you say "yes, Lord" to His ways, and obey Him in His word, and in directions shown to you, powerful things will happen in your life. Things you could not have imagined. Those words are all it takes. "Believe ye that I am able to do this?" is meant for the hardest thing you will have to do from time to time. At every point in your life, one or another of these yes's will become a word of life and peace.

In 2 Corinthians 1:20-22 it reads, "For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts."

"My faith rests on on what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what He has done, and in what He is doing for me." ~Charles Spurgeon

Today in devotions when I came across the verse, "Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth." (Psalm 31:5). What really stood out to me was the word "commit." Most of us know what that word means. In a way it is a heavy weighty word. Because all of us in the past have mistakenly committed to something, or perhaps someone, only to find out it was a weighty mistake.

But there can be no mistake for a person who commits themselves into the hand of the Lord God of Truth. A person who commits their spirit to the Lord in life, lives in the midst of God's perfect will. I think also that the word "commit" is unfortunately not considered in light of the deeper understanding of it.

Most memorable, even among expressions of the Psalms, as the dying words of our Lord Himself (Luke 23:46), and a long line of Christian worthies. Polycarp, Bernard, Huss, Henry V., Jerome of Prague, Luther, Melancthon, are some of the many who have passed away comforted and upheld by the psalmist’s expression of trust in these words. There is a committing of one's own spirit in this earthly mortal life, then committing their spirit before going into heaven at the end of it. David said in verse 15, "My times are in thy hands."

Which would entail his life here on earth. But death was not in his thought, it was in life, amid its troubles and dangers, that he trusted his spirit. He deposits his most precious treasure in the safe custody of the One who will take care of it. The great Hand is stretched out, and the little soul is put into it. It closes, and ‘no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand.’ The act of the psalmist was an act of strong confidence in God in the midst of dangers and troubles; the act of the Savior was of the same nature, commending his spirit to God in the solemn hour of death.

When you commit yourself to something or someone, you become one with them in thought, manners and beliefs. You amalgamate into them. You potentially risk the path God has you on if you trade His hand for the hand of the mortal. Be careful of what others commit to your trust as well. Be careful of what you commit to, whatever who or what it is, because if it is not God's will, you will lose yourself in it. Pray about everything.

"You never hear Jesus say in Pilate's judgement hall one word that would let you imagine that He was sorry that He had undertaken so costly a sacrifice for us. When His hands are pierced, when He is parched with fever, His tongue dried up like a shard of pottery, when His whole body is dissolved into the dust of death, you never hear a groan or a shriek that looks like Jesus is going back on His commitment." ~Charles Spurgeon

This morning in devotions I came across the verse in Psalm 22:14 where it was written, "I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels." As I was reading on I felt tug on my heart to go back and read only those words, "my heart is like wax; it is melted..." The Holy Spirit began to enlighten my eyes, and to know and understand something I never thought of.

I wrote them down in my Bible and I will write them here, just as I heard it.

"It is a more descriptive thing to say, My heart is melted," rather than the common norm of, "He died from a broken heart." No, it is a far more deeper, and greater thing to have a melted heart than a broken one. A broken one can be mended, but a melted heart flows away, out and downward. Never to be gathered again." Just like water poured out upon the dry ground."  I

was then brought to Isaiah 53:12, "For He poured out His soul unto death."

Again I heard these words, "Anything that melts pours out. His Blood poured out, His life poured out and down. His melted heart poured down and out for you and me. Now Lord melt my heart for you. Melt it down. Let me pour out my soul in me. Like yours for me, but now for you. And let me teach others to do so. Let this be my call."

Let this prayer be yours too. Ask the Lord to melt your heart, as "the mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth." When He does, your heart will lose it's shape and form, and be molded into another heart. A heart like the Lords, and a heart like the Father's where only love abounds forever.

"He said "Love...as I have loved you." We cannot love too much." ~Amy Carmichael

Today I had the great pleasure of having Jamie Walden on to deliver as always a powerful message. Really it was much more than a sermon, or a casual stop-by visit discussion. Rather it was a deliberate charge to all the saints world wide to awaken them out of deep spiritual sleep. In fact this word was so full of the witness bearing of the Holy Spirit. I myself felt His strong presence in my heart.

I think about a verse on 2 Samuel 1:18, "Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow." I thought about Jamie this way. He has been taught the use of the bow so to speak, when it comes to the word. His message was strong and articulated and on point. We can hear the voice of our Captain in his admonition to the body of Christ.

The high emphasis of Jamie's message was no lesson, it was a call to the complacent and those who live presumptuously to wake up and stay awake. He made it very crystal clear that cowards never won heaven, and neither will win they. It is those who have staked their eternal life on the Rock of Ages, and hold fast their faith, and are very courageous because they know Him.

"Cowards never won heaven. Do no claim that you are begotten of God and you have His royal blood running in your veins unless you can prove your lineage by His heroic spirit: dare to holy in spite of men and devils. ~William Gurnall - The Christian In Complete Armour

Today Brook Ardoin joined me to talk about about the cleansing power of forgiveness. Forgiveness is one thing very important to God. And the practice of forgiving one another is probably the one thing most exercised in the lives of the people of God. There is so much to more to forgiveness than what is thought.

There is a work involved in forgiveness in the spirit and soul's of people. It is more than a flat confession, or a momentary "feeling" of holy guilt. The work of forgiveness changes the person for the rest of their lives. It is not only that we forgive others, but there are many that refuse to forgive us. We discuss how the enemy can bind both people. Not just the one who needs to forgive.  Brook and I discuss our falling out from two years ago. When I acted on something I should have given better judgement on and hurt her feelings.

We spoke about the pain and injury of loss, and the grief of unforgiveness. We also spoke about how the Lord moved in my life in forgiveness in reaching out to her in true hearted contrition. Consequently bringing about the beauty of healing in her life that she had been praying for.  We felt that discussing what happened, and how the Lord moved in our lives would be something many people would benefit from. There is such a transforming power of forgiveness that feels as if a new birth takes place after the stormy darkness of unforgiveness. There are new rivers that flow from forgiveness, new ascents up the mountain, new life and light.

"Forgiving costs us our sense of justice. We all have this innate sense deep within our souls, but it has been perverted by our selfish sinful natures. We want to see “justice” done, but the justice we envision satisfies our own interests. We must realize that justice has been done. God is the only rightful administrator of justice in all of creation, and His justice has been satisfied. In order to forgive our brother, we must be satisfied with God’s justice and forego the satisfaction of our own." ~Charles Spurgeon
