  • White > Red and Blue

In hour two, we check in with our WMDX newsperson Savanna Tomei-Olson to hear about the goings-on locally, including the apprehension of the person suspected of causing last week’s bus crash and the implications of impending Medicaid cuts. In John and Gordy’s Big Story of the day, the guys talk protest, and how Trump is taking aim at the fundamental right. To distract ourselves, we check the weather with Brittney Merlot, who tells us we have snow on the way (!). After briefly returning to the topic of protest, where we hear a clip of Representative Dan Meuser cancelling his remaining town halls, we welcome in Mike McCabe. This week, he talks the red, white, and blue. As red and blue have been claimed by the two major parties, he advocates white as the color of protest and unity for Americans going forward.

  • Presidential Address? 1600 Pennsylvania!

John begins the show by immediately getting angry, about Trump’s presidential address last night. Luckily, Gordy calms him with the soothing National Day Calendar. Sam pitches in with some talk of The Doors for Today in History, and later, the three dive into Idiocracy, with more reflections on last night’s address. We also touch on how Russian state TV is celebrating the “sawing to pieces” of the US, and cover the story from awhile back of MTG’s take on the shooting of United Health CEO Brian Thompson. Closing out the first hour, we get a rapid-fire session of clips from John, all centered around inflation, tariffs, and the increasing economic burden for the American people.

  • Totalitarianism's First Target

Savanna Tomei-Olson, our WMDX Newsperson, joins us to run through a few big stories on her radar, including the tariffs, panic at UW’s research departments, and a proposed expansion to the Alliant Center. John gets to his promised Big Story, Trump’s planned takeover of the USPS – as a way to regulate mail-in ballots. We check in with Brittney Merlot for a check of the weather, and return to talking politics with a clip of Pam Bondi dedicating herself to going after those who don’t agree with Trump. Later, Russian asset (and Director of National Intelligence) Tulsi Gabbard explains in 100% falsehoods why Zelensky is a bad guy, before we move on to chatting about DOGE’s hugely inflated “savings” the department continues to lie about. Wrapping up today’s show, we hear from author Margret Atwood about totalitarianism, and how what happened to the Nazis is now happening to MAGA.

  • The S**tty of Chicago

John and Gordy kick off the show in usual fashion, talking about Marching Music Day, along with all the other National Days. We check in with Sam for Today in History, and dive into Idiocracy, touching more on the Trump-Zelensky meeting, now analyzed by AI as a textbook example of victim blaming. Wrapping up the first hour, Lisa Bernard from the Dane County Humane Society joins the show for her biweekly appearance, discussing their upcoming fundraiser Toto’s Gala, as well as featuring three pets up for adoption right now:

  • Elon, Goofin' It Up

In hour two, in addition to John’s Big Story, we welcome on our WMDX reporter Savanna Tomei-Olson for her Big Story of the day as well, on the Madison airport seeking to allow international flights, as well as the unexpected closing, and reopening of the Esquire supper club. With more on the chaotic Trump-Zelensky meeting, we learn that a port in Norway is now refusing to refuel US ships, as a result of the nondiplomacy showcased by Trump. Later, after the guys have continued to rail on the administration for their utter unprofessionalism, with the help of our boss Kathryn, the guys redirect to bashing the man behind the curtain, Elon Musk.

  • Get To That Sugar Shack

On this Monday morning, John and Gordy kick off remarking on Friday’s Trump-Zelensky “meeting,” a shouting match that nearly resorted to fisticuffs. They chat about last night’s Academy Awards, the National Day Calendar, and maple syrup season, once Pam Jahnke joins us. Later, we dive into the host of Idiocracy stories we have to share, starting with Fox News complaining about Musk, who has overstayed his welcome with DOGE. We hear a clip of Governor Evers defending IVF language in a bill, and shift gears again to talking taxes, with a clip of Jim McGovern breaking down the new MAGA tax cut plan, which every Republican wants to put in place, creating tax breaks for billionaires. Wrapping up the first hour, the guys return to the Trump-Zelensky meeting, with SNL’s take on it.

  • Can We Spy On You Guys?

John, Gordy, and Sam kick off their Friday show a bit sleepy, so they talk Public Sleeping day and the rest of the National Day Calendar. We chat with Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report about frozen federal funds for state creameries, and after the break jump into Idiocracy. Today we’re talking some breaking Idiocratic news: Russia is working to rebuild a network of spies, under the cover of diplomats (you can’t make this stuff up!). We listen to a rant from Texas representative Jasmine Crockett calling on Trump to tell the truth about Russia invading Ukraine, and also to Bill Burr comparing Musk and Hitler. (a cut we played yesterday with some naughty words in it, now taken out.) The guys touch on Musk’s effort to take over Verizon’s contract with the FAA, a bit of collusion between SpaceX and it’s oversight agency, no? Wrapping up the show, we get the Daily Show’s take on Trump’s Gold Card, and also hear a speech by Representative Melanie Stansbury, angry at King Trump, with a distaining comment by MTG.

  • Saturday In The Park

In hour two (back on the air!) we begin with John’s reaction to the live news that USAID employees are being kicked out of their offices. We listen to a clip from Alina Habba talking more about Trump’s reduction (destruction) of the government, a violation of the separation of powers. To distract us, we chat about the weather with our WMDX Meteorologist Brittney Merlot, before jumping back into politics with callers. After the break, the guys are joined by Seth Taft, the Indiana Jones of Wisconsin! He’s an archaeologist, and is also involved with the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks. They chat about how he’s fighting to improve and fund the state parks, and also talk about his work in archaeology at the former Badger Ammunition Plant South of Baraboo. A jack of all trades, Seth also talks about the environmental advocacy work he’s doing to protect the Boundary Waters in Minnesota from a proposed copper mine. Closing out the show, John and Gordy chat with Seth more on our state parks, from the most popular to the underrated.

  • Get Educated, Not Schooled

John, the basket case, is worried this morning about not being on the air, so he and Gordy search for distraction in the National Day Calendar. We also check in with Sam for Today in History, then welcome on Dr. Tim Slekar, one half of the BustED Pencils team. Today’s discussion centers on not just blindly endorsing public education, but instead critiquing it to make it better. Tim explains the goal of educating kids, rather than schooling them, and how there are systems in place to actually make that harder. Wrapping up hour one, the discussion with Tim shifts to news in AI with education – AI tutors.
