  • Learn a Thing or Two

Despite some hopeful words from Al Gore about hope for our destiny, John and Gordy mope about the state of the country. To distract themselves, we cover the National Day Calendar, and joke about the latest headline: new CIA hires having their names exposed in an unsecured email. Later, we get a real education of what's going on as we talk with Dr. Tim Slekar, one half of the BustED Pencils team. They chat about the implications of dismantling the Department of Education, the demonization of teachers, and the policy of ICE raiding schools, the antithesis to a good learning environment. Wrapping up the hour, the conversation shifts to school choice, and a surprising but heartening pushback on the privatization of education by Republicans in some states.

  • A New Story

In hour two, the guys bring up some issues arising in Brad Schimel's campaign for SCOWI, including likely illegally using AI in a campaign ad against his competitor, Susan Crawford, and also some shady fundraising efforts. Brittney Merlot checks in for a look at the weather, and also to celebrate National Weatherperson's Day! We talk taxes for a bit, as Musk has dismissed ("deleted") the IRS staff in charge of the free e-file program. Later, Mike McCabe joins us in the studio as he does every Wednesday, giving his two cents on the way forward: brakes, and a map. More specifically, to stop breaking things, and have a plan - tell a new story about how we reach success in America (hint: its not tax breaks and trickle-down).

  • Washington’s Vision For The Future

Today's show kicks off with words from General Washington, with his vision for America - if only he could see us now. The guys welcome us in with the National Day Calendar, and we jump into What's Trending: The US takeover of Gaza (!). We check in with Sam for Today in History, and dive into Idiocracy headfirst, covering Newsmax's insults to the pope, Representative Andy Ogles rationalization for a US takeover of Greenland, and a look at what's on the horizon for AI. Closing out, the guys chat about the solution looking for a problem: Trump's ban on CRT in K-12 schools (which is unconstitutional).

  • Living The Dream

Hour two kicks off with some words by George Carlin, all about the American Dream (you need to be asleep to believe it). The guys chat about upcoming protests at the capitol, then dive into JD Vance's philosophical influence: Curtis Yarvin, the billionaire who wants to get rid of the republic. We take another break from politics as we chat with Brittney Merlot, our Civic Media meteorologist, along with Caitlin McAleavey from the Clean Lakes Alliance, learning all about this weekend's Frozen Assets Fest! Later, we have a rare part II of Idiocracy, as we take calls about the slow but sure overthrow of the government. We also return to the topic of Curtis Yarvin, mentor to JD Vance, who wants a dictatorship and police state.

  • A Metaphor For Current Government

After some technical hiccups this morning, John and Gordy are back on the air! (again) After a sprint through the National Day Calendar and Today in History, we get into Idiocracy, covering Musk and Trump's crusade to do away with the Department of Education (and all of the republic). To lift our spirits we chat with Lisa Bernard from the Dane County Humane Society, as we experience the Dating Game once again! Gordy, blindfolded, meets three pets up for adoption at DCHS, and chooses one to take on a 'date'.

  • Plants!

In hour two, the guys dive into the planned "government buyout" by Trump of employees in the "unelected bureaucracy," which he really plans to replace with political loyalists (!) We check in with Brittney Merlot for a check of the weather, and later, welcome in Amy Horak for the inaugural edition of the David J. Frank Horticultural Report! Though its wintertime, there's plenty to chat about in the realm of plants, including winter pruning, preserving plants during the unusual midwinter freeze/thaw cycles, and more. Closing out the show, we touch on a few texts bringing up the fact that Elon Musk is slowly but surely worming his way into the treasury department.

  • Broligarchy

John and Gordy kick off the week recapping the Grammys, with a rant from John on the death of country music. We get into the National Day Calendar, and talk Today in History with Sam before welcoming on Pam Jahnke to chat about a citizen science weather program going into place, and a renewed push by Senator Baldwin to have an AM radio in every car. In today's dose of Idiocracy, the guys talk Broligarchy, the hostile takeover by tech bros and billionaires of the US government. We take a trip back in time to a year ago, when Musk predicted last week's airline crash, blaming DEI for everything (big surprise). Continuing on the topic of demonizing DEI, we hear from (dumb) Senator Eric Schmitt, making a word salad of excuses for doing away with "the new N-word."

  • Holy Crow!

In hour two, we hear the buried lead, a comment by Glenn Grothman, saying the federal government needs to conduct an "ethnic review" - racism, no? Then we return to the news of the plane crash, getting Ron Johnson's response, and his call to upgrade facilities. Brittney Merlot checks in for our daily look at the weather, and then the guys solicit responses, asking how listeners get their fix of Civic Media every day. Later, we're joined by Jimmy K as we are every Friday, to take a look at what's on tap for Max Ink Radio and local music this weekend.

  • I’ve Lived Here My Whole Life!

John and Gordy had the opportunity to fill in for Maggie Daun on the network yesterday, which they were glad to do, but resulted in massive sleep deprivation this morning! In the midst of their crazed hallucinations, they manage to cover the National Day Calendar and Today in History, before chatting with Pam Jahnke about the wild warm weather we've been experiencing. They chat about how the tariffs planned to be implemented tomorrow may impact farmers, and mention that Green and Gold, the movie, will be premiering today! Later, we get into Idiocracy, talking up and down about fighting for democracy, in the place we've always called home. The guys chat about CESA, a department created by Trump, which he is now directing to stop all efforts combatting mis- and disinformation, and wrap up the hour mentioning the rising number of conspiracies and scapegoats being blamed for the airline crash.

  • Where Are Your Papers?

In hour two, the guys chat more about the story out of Milwaukee, where three citizens, now known to be Puerto Ricans, were arrested by ICE for speaking Spanish. Elaborating on the topic, we hear from Ryan Walters, OK Superintendent of Schools, who wholeheartedly endorses the idea of raiding schools to deport kids. Taking a break from the madness, we chat with Brittney Merlot our Civic Media Meteorologist about the roller coaster of weather we have ahead. Later the guys dive into RFK's confirmation hearing yesterday. Despite his total disregard of personal values, the hearings actually proved funny at times. We close out with Bernie Sanders' question about RFK's anti-vax baby clothes, and also some fun stories from the Onion.
