  • On Optimism, for Beneficial Tech Regulations

As promised, in hour two the guys dive more into Biden's farewell speech last night, and specifically his warning about the tech-industrial complex. They take this idea and discuss what's going on with Facebook and TikTok, but get snapped back to reality (and hope for the future) with Sam's comparison to the early days of radio, which were also a media wild west. We check in with Brittney Merlot, talking about outdated but still popular home heating methods (coal!?) but then take a look at the upcoming weather. Returning to the topic of social media regulation, the discussion turns to alternatives to TikTok, set to be taken offline later this week. Later, we touch on a whirlwind of topics ranging from the Consumer Electronics Show to Pat Bondi's confirmation hearing.

  • Smart, But In What Way?

John and Gordy celebrate the long awaited warming foretold by our meteorologist Brittney Merlot. After talking the weather, they reflect on Biden's farewell speech - but more on that to come. We check the National Day Calendar, and talk Today in History with Sam. Later we welcome on Dr. Tim Slekar of BustED Pencils to talk brats, and of course education as well too. They dive into the topic of multiple intelligences - the idea that kids (and adults!) that are good at certain things are just as intelligent, in a different way, as someone who can ace a math test.

  • Antisocial Media

In hour two, the guys dive into wealth inequality, talking how oligarchs and billionaires are taking over the country, killing the middle class. We also look at the effects on healthcare - and ask the question of whether healthcare is a right or not. We chat with Brittney Merlot about the weather real quick, then jump into coverage of the hearings for Pete Hegseth, the drunk, nominated to be Secretary of Defense. Later, because its Wednesday, we welcome in Mike McCabe, getting his take on Biden's presidency as it comes to a close. They also chat about the problems that the internet and social media face, and the consequences of their disregulation. The conversation turns to journalism, what Mike was trained in at college, and how modern journalism is seeing a renaissance, or at least great change, and is still incredibly valuable. They close out talking the nature of social media - and its primary use as an advertising tool - not a news source.

  • Its The Waterpark’s Fault

John and Gordy, despite vowing to not talk about it, kick off talking about the senate confirmation hearings for Trump's circus of a cabinet. To distract ourselves, we chat about hats and the National Day Calendar, and check the books for Today in History. Later in Idiocracy, we chat about how everyone on the internet is now an expert on wildfires, and also banter about the opposite element, water, with news of expansions to waterparks in the Dells. Wrapping up hour one, the guys look to foreign issues - Trump's threat to take over Canada and Panama.

  • Promoting the General Welfare

We kick off hour two with chatter about the SCOTUS and healthcare in the Big Story - as they undertake cases aiming to repeal aspects of Obamacare. We check in with Brittney Merlot for a look ahead at the roller coaster of weather we have coming up, then talk with Judy Davidoff, Editor of Isthmus, about some of the stories in the latest issue of the paper, and her column on the Mayor's response to the Abundant Life shooting last month. John and Gordy get squeaky clean later in the show, talking with Hanna Shea, owner of HS Pristine Clean about running a cleaning business. Closing out with Leftovers, we get to the other Big Story of the day - putting strings on aid for California's wildfire devestation.

  • What Is Truth?

With a light dusting of snow, John kicks off the show yelling about the slow drivers on Campus Drive, then remembers the day 26 years ago when he became a dad. Because his eldest is now 26, we get a preview of his rant on healthcare to come later in the show, which Gordy and Sam need to calm him down from. We distract ourselves with the National Day Calendar and Today in History with Sam before getting into Idiocracy for the day. We get a fact check from Daniel Dale about the presence of guns at January 6th, and speaking of truth, we talk more on the repeal of Meta's fact checking. Rounding out hour one, the guys talk the latest gadgets and gizmos from this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

  • Fix It Yourself

In hour two, John and Gordy dive into the Big Story: the ban of TikTok, set to happen on the 19th, and now being reviewed by the SCOTUS. We briefly check the weather with Brittney Merlot, and later welcome on Kevin Meagher from Freewheel Bicycle, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting cycling and teaching bike repair, to talk about what they do and their upcoming annual meeting. In the leftovers, we get back to a story from last week: Meta scrapping its fact checking, completely.

  • Fox, Pro-Terrorism?

John and Gordy kick off the week talking about their first albums, way back in the 60s. They recap the Civic Media holiday party over the weekend, then dive into the National Day Calendar. They chat with Pam Jahnke, the Fabulous Farm Babe, about a dairy expo coming up later this week, and also get her take on how the lack of snow and winter weather is affecting Wisconsin businesses and farms. In today's dose of Idiocracy, we learn about how Trump was right about everything (truly, lol), Fox News' defense of white supremacists, and wrap up the hour with an interesting demand from David Corn: that billionaires be deported, and forced to pay reparations to the American people.

  • Weekly Best of John and Gordy Show for Jan 11

John and Gordy snapped back to reality this week, in their first full five days back after the holidays. We kick off hearing about the devastating wildfires that continue to rage in Los Angeles, and politicization of the tragedy by Trump and other politicians. The guys say hello to Pam Jahnke, the Fabulous Farm Babe, and chat about Green and Gold, the new movie shot in Wisconsin about the Packers. Later, also after some time away, John and Gordy talk with Mike McCabe about what's been on his mind the past few weeks. As he saw A Complete Unknown, lots of the conversation revolves around Bob Dylan.

  • Miles of Devestation

In hour two, the guys dive into the LA wildfires that continue to rage, exploring Trump's political response to it, and the continued problems that climate change denial causes. Brittney Merlot checks in for a look at the weather (we have snow finally!), and talk the response, first from Mexico, and now echoed by Canada, in response to Trump's expansionist rhetoric, that our northern neighbor should take in Democratic states, should they secede. Later, Jimmy K joins the guys in studio for an update on Rökker's condition, a chat on the LA fires, and of course, a preview of Max Ink Radio this weekend.
