  • Because I Said So! 6.04.2016
    [This episode originally aired 6.04.2016]
In this episode, John speaks on the culture of political correctness in which we currently live and its effect on the rights of parents to raise their children the way they see fit. He uses the example of a recent news story out of Spartanburg, SC, in which a mother was arrested for allowing her 9-year-old nephew to walk her 3-year-old son to a McDonald's a quarter mile away from her house.

In this episode, John talks about the immoral and unethical direction that he feels his profession of psychology has gone in the past 40 to 50 years.  His experienced take is that psychologists today encourage people to have symptoms. Instead of helping people come to grips with wrongheadedness, they encourage it by promoting fad therapies.  One such therapy he points to is the trend toward adolescent transgender therapy.

  • Because I Said So! 5.21.2016
    [This episode originally aired 5.21.2016]
In this episode, John describes a talk given recently by his good friend, nationally-syndicated radio talk show host Dennis Prager, in which Prager spoke on the topic of happiness.  Prager feels that you are responsible for your own happiness and says that if you don’t accept full responsibility for that state of being, you are going to be miserable. John relates this viewpoint to parenting: The more a parent tries to ensure a child’s happiness, the more the parent unwittingly and with the best of intentions robs the child of the personal right to pursue happiness on his or her own.

Prager also says that when all is said and done, it doesn’t matter how you feel; all that matters is how you treat other people. John applies this advice to parenting and says that proper parenting is very simply an act of love for your neighbor. Train your child such that the child will treat other people properly and contribute toward making America a better place. In the final analysis, the only thing that matters is that the child grows up to be a good citizen - not your child’s grades, athletic achievements, or what college he/she gets into. It is simply his level of self-responsibility, level of compassion, and willingness to serve others unselfishly.

  • Because I Said So! 5.14.2016
    [This episode originally aired 5.14.2016]
In this episode, John addresses a recent Dear Abby column in which a grandmother writes in asking why today's mothers feel so much angst in the raising of children. John says the problem is due largely in part to what he calls postmodern psychological parenting and the pressure today's mothers feel to adhere to the destructive doctrine of the Good Mommy Club. Therefore, something her grandmother did with relatively little effort is stressful, anxiety-, self-doubt-, and guilt-ridden—in a word, exhausting.

  • Because I Said So! 4.30.2016
    [This episode originally aired 4.30.2016]
In this episode, John answers two questions from listeners. The first question comes from the parents of a 7-year-old boy who has developed a bad habit of taking things that are not his and sneaking treats from the kitchen.  When the parents discover he has done this, they "go nuclear" and take away treats for a month. John describes what it really means to “go nuclear” in this sort of situation. He relays a similar situation in which the stealing stopped within a relatively short period of time after the parents of a child used one of John’s discipline techniques.
In the second segment, he answers a question from a mother who asks if it is okay to read her 17-year-old son's text messages without his knowledge. She also asks how she can stop suspected immoral behavior. First, John explains that if the mother owns the phone, she has every right to examine her property in this regard. He goes on to say that there is little, if nothing, she can do to stop his suspected immoral behavior.  Free will, he says, limits a parent's ability to sway the behavior of a 17-year-old child. Sin is a very powerful force. Sometimes your parenting can overcome it and sometimes it cannot.

  • Because I Said So! 4.23.2016
    [This episode originally aired 4.23.2016]
In the first segment, John weighs in on the vaccination debate, saying that the controversy that is currently raging in America demonstrates that it is possible to be intelligent and irrational at the same time. He contends that while vaccinations do carry a risk of side-effects, the benefits far outweigh the risks. No doubt, vaccinations do come with risks, even devastating ones, but parents must approach the decision objectively. He does not believe that parents should be forced to vaccinate their children, nor should they be jailed for not doing so. This is a free country, he says, where parents have a choice whether or not to vaccinate their children.
In the second segment, John talks about the departure from parenting using biblical principle that our country has drifted away from since the 1960s. These are God’s children, he says, and we should be following His directions when it comes to the raising of our children.

  • Because I Said So! 4.16.2016
    [This episode originally aired 4.16.2016]
In the first segment, John discusses 2 Timothy 3 as it relates to indicating the end times.  He contends that the behaviors listed in Paul's letter to Timothy have been descriptive of people throughout history, and that the only unique phrase pertains to children's disobedience to their parents.  John says that this phrase is novel to post-World War II western civilization and could be an indication that we are, indeed, in the end times.
In the second segment, John answers a question from a listener who is the stepmother to her husband's three children. Her husband and the children's mother do not see eye-to-eye on the raising of their children, which is causing opposition from the children in their household.

  • Because I Said So! 4.09.2016
    [This episode originally aired 4.09.2016]
Today, the highly destructive doctrine of the Good Mommy Club defines proper childrearing. The list of things the Good Mommy is supposed to be doing for her children boil down to one overarching dogma: The Good Mommy is in a near-constant state of high-energy parenting motion—she never stops thinking about and doing for her kids. Therefore, something her grandmother did with relatively little effort is stressful, anxiety-, self-doubt-, and guilt-ridden—in a word, exhausting.

  • Because I Said So! 4.02.2016
    [This episode originally aired 4.02.2016]
Why don't kids play outside anymore? Today's child is more often than not micromanaged and overscheduled from morning until night, and the traditional idea of childhood is rapidly disappearing in America as a result. In this episode, John contends that nearly 100% of the after school activities that your children are involved in will be meaningless and irrelevant to anything they are doing when they are 30 years old. He says to let children be children again, the way they were in a not-so-long time here in America.
John spends the second segment discussing the current trend of parents talking to their children about their feelings. He cautions parents to use discernment when talking to their children about their feelings lest they give validity to the often irrational thoughts, feelings, and fears of a child.
