To continue hour one Jon interviews Kurt Helin from probasketball.com. Jon starts things off by asking Kurt what he thinks about the Onyeka Okongwu pick, and Kurt responds by saying that he is okay with the pick even with the depth the Hawks already have at center and power forward. Kurt also says “this was the best defensive player in the draft.” Next, Chuckery asks Kurt about Lloyd Pierce and if he thinks Lloyd will be gone if the Hawks don’t win a lot more games this year. Kurt says he doesn’t necessarily thinks that is the case, and he also says he not too worried about Okongwu not getting a lot of minutes because Kurt believes that “the pick won’t affect winning for the Hawks.” Kurt also says that “the most ready guy in this draft was not going to contribute that much for the Hawks, and affect winning.” Next, Chuckery continues the interview by asking about reports coming out of John Collins’ camp and agent that Collins wants a max deal, and if the Hawks and John can’t come to terms the Hawks would be okay with moving on from John. Kurt agrees with what Jon says and follows up by saying that “He’s not sure how well John and Clint will fit together, and that the Hawks would definitely get something back for him if they weren’t able to get a deal done.” Finally, to close things out Jon asks Kurt if Anthony Edwards was always going to be the number one overall pick, and Kurt responds by saying that “He’s a good fit for Minnesota, but I think LaMelo Ball has the higher floor, but he doesn’t thinks Anthony Edwards’ floor is very low.”
