Julia Hobsbawm is an entrepreneur, writer, and consultant who addresses the challenges of the hyper connected age, in particular remedies of what she has called Social Health for organisations.

She is Chair of The Workshift Commission and is Founder and Chair of the content and connection business Editorial Intelligence. Her bestselling book The Simplicity Principle: Six Steps Towards Clarity in a Complex World was published in 2020 and won two US Awards for Best Business Book and Best Self-Help Book of 2020. Her previous books include Fully Connected: Social Health in an Age of Overload which was shortlisted for Management Book of the Year.

Awarded an OBE for services to business, her articles are amongst the most downloaded on the Strategy + Business site and she is an adviser to the British Academy’s Future of the Corporation project.

She regularly speaks to global audiences in government, private and public sectors. Julia is a founding trustee in the UK of OurBrainBank, a patron of Saving Faces: Facial Surgery Research Foundation, patron of The Zoe Education Trust, and is the Founder of the Social Capital Network.

BIO:
Jon spent the first decade of his career working in the advertising industry, selling some of the world's biggest brands, and winning plenty of awards along the way. Then he realised he was caught up in a story he didn't believe in: The Consumer Story.

In 2014, Jon co-founded the New Citizenship Project with Irenie Ekkeshis, a former ad-land colleague. Their mission was to figure out how to use their skills not just to sell stuff to Consumers, but to involve people in the decisions that affect their lives as Citizens.

They have since partnered with organisations and institutions including the Co-op, The Body Shop, National Trust, BBC, European Central Bank and many more.

Jon is a Fellow of the Young Foundation and the Royal Society of Arts, as well as a member of the World Economic Forum's Political Entrepreneurship Network and of the OECD's Innovative Citizen Participation Network. He holds three Masters degrees in disciplines spanning humanities and business, and has won several essay awards including the inaugural Ashridge/European Academy of Business in Society Sustainable Innovation Award, and the Young Foundation's Beyond Meritocracy Prize. Along the way, he has also represented Great Britain in two different sports.

Our guest this week joining to discuss the future of carbon drawdown is the brilliant author and lecturer - Dr Gabrielle Walker.

BIO:
Gabrielle gives keynote addresses to corporate audiences around the world. She is also an accomplished moderator of high-level debates, guiding panels involving global CEOs, former heads of state, government ministers, military generals and global humanitarian leaders. She has extensive experience at designing and facilitating innovative “safe-space” conversations between global leaders, from small round tables through to major international meetings. Gabrielle has presented many TV and radio programs for the BBC.

She has been Climate Change Editor at Nature and Features Editor at New Scientist and has written very extensively for many international newspapers and magazines, including The Economist, Prospect, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. She is author of four books including co-authoring the bestselling book The Hot Topic, how to avoid global warming while still keeping the lights on, which was described by Al Gore as “a beacon of clarity” and by The Times as “a material gain for the axis of good”. She has a PhD from Cambridge University and has taught at both Cambridge and Princeton Universities.

A self-confessed “ice addict” Gabrielle has made more than a dozen trips to both poles. She has also climbed trees in the Amazon rainforest, swum with piranhas, been sneezed on by a humpback whale, hooked lava out of a live volcano, and flown in zero gravity.

She is a world-renowned speaker for her clear insights and warm storytelling. Past clients have included Salesforce, Goldman Sachs, the World Business Forum, Aspen Ideas Festival, Adobe, and Snapchat Rachel is often voted the audience’s favourite speaker at events and her TED talks have been viewed more than five million times. She is also the host of the podcast series Trust Issues.
