It was only three months after opening the new production of Les Miserables at the  refurbished Sondheim Theatre that the show closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, after 2 years since the production opened, Josefina Gabrielle is back on the West End stage playing Madame Thénardier. With the West End now fully lit up, Josefina took some time to talk to us about the new production of the iconic show and what it has been like portraying the deliciously wicked character. She tells us very eloquently on the universality of the show and why the the message still resonates so strongly with audiences today. Indeed, Les Miserables first arrived on the London scene in 1985 and yet audiences are still returning to the show today. With rousing numbers like One Day More, Master of the House and I Dreamed a Dream, Josefina tells us about how comforting it has also been to work on such a hopeful show during what has been a very dark time for many people.

For nearly 30 years, Josefina Gabrielle has dazzled audiences across the country and even on Broadway. A three-time Olivier award nominee, Josefina has cemented herself in the industry as one of the West End's finest leading ladies, taking on roles in both high profile musicals like the National Theatre's Oklahoma! opposite Hugh Jackman as well as taking on dramatic roles like in Tonight at 8:30, a collection of Noël Coward plays at Chichester. She also remains one of few actresses to have played both Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart in Chicago. Today, Josefina Gabrielle remains humble as ever, happy looking back at many career highlights. She tells us she hopes to carry on working within the industry and we look forward to her creating and re-creating more brilliant work in the future.

Les Miserables is running at the Sondheim Theatre in London and you can book tickets now!
