Josh and Jo discuss the parallels of coaching and parenting.  Nothing is more important than generational improvement and that’s the ultimate goal. Whether it’s rocking a podcast to level up on communication skills or coaching our kids as they navigate sports and life, Josh and Jo explain why they put in the time.  Did we already say nothing is more important?  We’ll keep saying it…  Also, a shout out to coaches and the awesome parents who support their kids’ dreams. Naturally, there’s a segway to how we approach our love lives.  Is Jewel silly for singing, “I was meant for you, and you were meant for me?”  Josh says it’s so egotistical!  Jo argues and then listens.  Folks, it’s a learning process.   From letting go, to the notion of wanting to possess another person or wanting to be the center of someone’s universe, Jo reconsiders what she thinks “love” might really be.

Josh and Jo explore the reasons why people don’t say “when” when they know in their gut that a relationship is over.  Should I stay or should I go?  This is such a tough conversation that Jo gave herself a concussion by pounding her head against the microphone in frustration.  When you find yourself thinking about throwing in the towel because of a transgression, the loss of romantic feelings or passion has died, why is it easier to stay?  Josh introduces the concept that if people stop being surprised by challenges in relationships (e.g., “Why are you surprised that someone else wants to bone your partner?”), a more open conversation can result in less heartache and insidious confusion. Is it as simple as asking yourself: Is this a non-negotiable item? Or is flying solo so bad?

Josh and Jo sit with Melissa, a probation officer for juveniles, to discuss the importance of clear of communication to ensure consent in matters related to intimacy. We offer some suggestions on how to teach the younger generation a healthier approach to sex. Consent isn’t solely a safety/respect issue, it can also be a significant turn on when is comes from all parties with considerable abundance.

Josh and Jo share the regrets they have in their lives. However, they quickly realize that regretting isn’t their style. Rather, they try to make good decisions and when they do not, they try understand the why and work through the consequences.

Is Josh an Osho reincarnate?  Definitely, maybe.  Here’s what happened:  Christina handed Josh a book called, “Being in Love,” by Osho because, well, turns out, she is intuitive.  Josh had never heard of the controversial yet intriguing philosopher, but being the nerd he is in regards to appreciating alternative thought and philosophy, he committed to reading it at a later time.  Jo noticed the book on the table while setting up the podcast equipment and after a quick google search of quotes by the author… she deemed several of Osho’s thought processes to be eerily similar to her podcast partner’s own hot takes. This pod came out of nowhere and we enjoyed the spontaneous feel it took on. Josh and Jo start by issuing blanket apologies on behalf of their genders’ missteps and oversights. Do any of these sound familiar to you?  The tone gets a little more serious when Josh and Jo talk about forgiveness and apologies in their own lives and conclude with this simple fact:  If you’re an a$$hole, be good at forgiving because you’re gonna need a lot of it!

69 is not the magic number.  Josh and Jo are very forgiving people, but can they live up to what a book suggests – that we should forgive 70 x 7 times (ergo, essentially infinitely)?  Josh has a cheat sheet on forgiving.  C’mon, of course he does!  In fact, he remembers a song by Dave Mason called, “We Just Disagree,” from his childhood. No one’s perfect.  So why not forgive?  For Jo, well, she mostly succeeds but continues to fail in a few instances. 

We’re pretty certain that all of us has been affected by infidelity.  As a partner, child, or friend… we’re either directly involved or indirectly touched by this topic. In this episode, we talk about some of our personal experiences and along with folks close to us.  Josh’s take on infidelity is refreshing and unique while Jo walks us through “The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity,” by Esther Perel. Perel’s observations and thoughts on what constitutes infidelity (there is no universal definition), why it hurts so much, and… Jo’s favorite… why it can actually be a good thing, are mind bending. Some “Aha!” and enlightening moments from Josh and Jo as always.
