We had some big conversations on JOY Breakfast this morning.

Rach and Dean dived into Rainbow Angles protecting our communities in Dean Dean Time Machine, as they looked at their history of protecting in tough times, and the Victorian Community who are working together to help stand strong in the face of hate.

When LGBTIQA+ people need support, we get organised!

And with the current climate against trans gender and gender non-conforming people and drag performers escalating right here in Victoria,  a community led safety initiative (The Rainbow Community Angels) sounds like a great idea.

Launched yesterday, Felicity Marlowe joined them on JOY Breakfast to tell them a about it.

It’s hump day for JOY Breakfast during JOY’s Radiothon and Rach & Dean are getting wiggy with it for their Wednesday.

As we head towards the home stretch for our Radiothon fundraising, they were delighted to be joined by Blast from the Past the awesome Paul Anthony, who shared many storied on air about our JOY over the years.

Then were welcomed by Tanya from Netball Victoria to talk about their upcoming inclusion round and how its through coming together that change and inclusive events like this can happen. And their surprise celebrity guest was the iconic voice of Aussie Television (on Channel Seven at least) the awesome John Deeks.

Plus they hit their first target on the Tower of Torment! Filled with fun, wigs, laughter and more it was the perfect way to start the day.

It’s the first Radiothon JOY Breakfast of the week, & Rach & Dean have “frocked up” for a morning where they put the fun into fundraising. Joining them as guest cohost is Joyster blast from the past Anastasia Li, as they introduce their ‘Tower of Terror’ and begin the steps to utter humiliation as their tasks get more ridiculous for every $5,000 they raise during the week.

Joined by celebrity secret guest Brendan Maclean and a fabulous regional chat with Caitlyn from Gippsland Pride Initiative, it’s amazing to see how our communities thrive when we come together and lift each other up.

Born in the sequins and discotheque dust of the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2015, Velvet Rewired is an explosion of dance, music and circus mixed into one hit disco extravaganza.

Velvet has always been a nightclub, a state of mind, a fantasy and today Rach & Dean were joined by three of the iconic performers live in the studio on JOY Breakfast. The DJ himself Joe Accaria and two stunning sirens, Jacinta Gulisano and Sasha Lee Saunders.

Dean likes to say he is a busy homosexual, but is ARIA chart sensation Greg Gould giving him a run for his money?

Joining he and Rach on JOY Breakfast this morning, fresh of the stage in Sydney as part of SYNTHONY‘s Australian tour, Greg burst onto the national music scene in 2013 as the runner up in Australia’s Got Talent .

Besides performing around the world, earlier this year, Greg performed at the televised Soccer Pride Cup half time show  and recently released his original anthem ‘Marching On’, written about the queer struggle community has and continues to go through to be accepted .

With a new album coming out this year he recently announced that he will be performing as a part of Darwin Pride with his first original track ‘Marching On’ as the pride festivals anthem. Plus you can hear him weekly one JOY on Thursday nights from 7pm on ‘In the Green Room’.

With the news that overnight, protesters flooded a City of Monash council meeting, and shouted abuse at councillors ahead of discussions about a drag story time event for IDAHOBIT in May, Dean has decided it’s time to discuss his own experience of harassment in the past six months as a drag entertainer that all performs for children.

Being a Breakfast show, Rach and Dean decided to record after JOY Breakfast had finished to explore the current climate and its affects on performers and communities.

As performer Frock Hudson, this year has been a rollercoaster, with poorly excecuted “disruption” to his children’s show in Midsumma, performing for audiences at Moomba and hosting the biggest Rainbow Storytime Daylesford has ever seen during Chillout – but the current harassment and abuse that people and businesses are experiencing because they are creating. space for an entertainer to read to children is crazy, and last nights council meeting was a tipping point about staying silent for him.
