A new community has been established in the eastern Negev. This one sponsored by the Hashomer Hahadash movement, a social educational organization whose goal is to assist farmers and ranchers and aimed at building attachment to the land. Home to 20 young families already, it is called Mitzpe Yoni, in memory of Col. Yonatan Steinberg, the commander of the Nahal Brigade who fell in battle during the October 7 Hamas attack. As of tomorrow, January 1st, foreign travelers from the US, European Union member countries, and dozens of other visa-exempt countries must apply online for an electronic travel authorization, “ETA,” permit to enter Israel. Mark Feldman, CEO of Ziontours in Jerusalem, told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the process was simple and similar to other countries.  Feldman also said that while low-cost airlines were returning, the big foreign airlines won’t likely come back till Spring. The government has been scrambling to muster a majority for a key budget-related bill after two coalition factions threatened to vote against the measure unless their demands are met. While jockeying by coalition parties over the budget is nothing new, the interests at stake in the current government are more complex, according to political scientist Gayil Talshir of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She told KAN reporter Naomi Segal the issue to watch is the haredi draft bill.

Praised for helping broker the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, former US president Jimmy Carter’s presidency and later his post-presidency was marred due to problematic relations with Jewish voters and  strained relations with Israel that was due, some say, to his “arrogance and ignorance” on the complexities of the issues.

Gerald Steinberg, professor emeritus of political science from Bar Ilan University and the founder of NGO monitor, said that Carter blamed the Jewish vote for his loss to Ronald Reagan in his bid for a second term. The 4th Ein Kerem Music Festival , a project of the Zimbalista Music Factory, expands this year to Kfar Blum and Tel Aviv, featuring  music artists from the north and the Gaza envelope region, in an event that brings Christian, Moslem and Jewish musicians together. Conductor and percussionist Chen Zimbalista, music director of the festival, spoke to KAN reporter Naomi Segal.

Sara Netanyahu’s lawyer has sent a letter to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Prosecutor Amit Aisman warning them not to open a probe into allegations that the prime minister’s wife had sought to intimidate a witness and interfere in the corruption case against her husband.

Baharav-Miara and Aisman ordered police on Thursday to open a probe following a Channel 12 investigative report on the Uvda program.

In a letter to the legal officials, Netanyahu’s lawyer Uriel Hor Nizri claimed that they were acting against his client for “personal reasons” and that opening an investigation would be “illegal.”

KAN's Mark Weiss spoke with Mordechai Kremnitzer , a Senior Fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute and a Professor of Law Emeritus at Jerusalem's Hebrew university and asked him about the allegations against Sara Netanyahu and the ongoing campaign by ministers to oust the Attorney General.

Many reservists and veterans come back from wars and service with some post traumas and they some are seeking support. One place that has reached out to give both mental and physical help is Surfers Without Limits. They are dedicated to supporting veterans and guiding them through surfing off the Tel Aviv beaches. Aviv Levy, the founder and head of Surfers Without Limits, said surfing gives these veterans a new story, and purpose in life that often lifts them out of the depression and post traumatic disorder from the wars. Levy told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that healing through the power of surfing the waves makes them have more positive thoughts about everything in their lives.
