Farming has never been an easy endeavor. Forget the weather conditions and the market. What is truly making it edgy is the theft of their produce and equipment. Agriculture theft is rampant across the country. It is particularly prominent now during the olive harvest season. Gangs of thieves strip olive groves in the night leaving the farmers frustrated and angry. Sometimes they lose so much of their yield they don’t even bother harvesting the little fruit left on the trees. It’s a blow to the Zionist endeavor and doubly frustrating since authorities are not doing enough to stop it.  We spoke with olive farmer Yariv Shimron, who is also the CEO of the Elah Valley winery. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that MANY Israeli farmers were operating out of emotion rather than profit and would hold on.

A leaked recording of Religious Zionism party leader Bezalel Smotrich calling Likud party leader Benjamin Netanyahu a "liar" set off a political stir as the campaign in Israel's elections for the 25th Knesset headed into its final week. The remarks were made in the context of debate over whether Netanyahu, in coalition negotiations following the last elections, was willing to form a government with help from the Islamist Ra'am party. 

Gayil Talshir, a political scientist at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, spoke to KAN reporter Naomi Segal about who, in her view, stands to gain or lose politically from the comments.
