It was released for publication on Sunday morning that Sgt. Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, 22, was killed during combat in southern Lebanon on Friday, from Hizbullah rocket fire.
Katz, originally from New Haven, Connecticut, served in the 890th Battalion, Paratroopers Brigade.
Five Israeli soldiers have been killed since the start of Israel's ground incursion in southern Lebanon.
Mendy, the father of Moshe, wrote a Facebook post expressing his grief. "My heart is shattered and the wound is open," he wrote. "My firstborn son with a zest for life and jokes. May he be an advocate only for good things."
