Pats Travel to the Swamp

Patriots head on down to Jacksonville to take on the 1-1 Jags. 

Biggest thing to watch in this game has to be Drake Maye. He hasn’t put up good numbers the first two weeks can he turn it around in Jacksonville?

How he can do it- Doubs looks to be getting comfortable after his 4 catch 96 yard performance against Pittsburgh. Need to keep that momentum going against 2nd year star Travis hunter who will probably be on him most of the game. Get Doubs involved early to open up other receivers like Hollins, Douglas, and tight end hunter henry. Need to get the passing game clicking on early

What’s the biggest concern?- protecting Drake Maye. Josh allen and Travon walker will be disruptive all game and need to be cautious with the protection schemes. No time to dance in the pocket need to know where your check downs are and if your first two options aren’t there dump it out. 

Trevor Lawerence has weapons and for some reason jakobi meyers always lights up his old team. Look for Gonzalez to get his first int of the season this game. 

Weather is going to be perfect and not a concern. I’ll be there taking in the sites and looking for a patriots 27-17 win in Jacksonville.

Patriots 20 Steelers 3 in what could be described as a frustrating game to watch as a Patriots fan 

Why?- the patriots offense and Drake Maye don’t look like they are gelling 

Maye goes 14/22 208 yards 0 tds 1 int and was sacked 3 times. 

In an offseason that was used to get Drake more weapons and protection, the first two weeks haven’t worked out. 

Still making bad reads and not looking comfortable in the pocket. 

Other than the long 63 yard pass to Doubs what really stood out from the passing performance on Sunday?

Dhamondre is still fumbling. He had his 18th fumble of his career. Lucky that Henderson came back and got the Patriots their lone offensive touchdown of the game. 

You sit an average nfl down and ask what stood out in this game on the offensive side of the ball they would say, nothing. 

The good news is the defense looks good. Not saying top 5, just a solid overall unit. They held the Steelers to 235 yards total and got after Aaron Rodger’s. He was sacked 4 times and threw an interception to Gabe Jacas who at training camp seemed to be another failed 2nd round pick but has looked great the 1st two games of the season. 

Patriots did start off slow last year could this just be how they go since most of the starters didn’t play any preseason games. Could this be a rusty September? In his 7 seasons coaching he’s only had 2 winning records in September, in 2018 and 2020. Other than those two he usually goes 2-2.
