Celtics After The All Star Break

STOP it now- Jayson Tatum is coming back, he will be back march 1st. The nba moved the Celtics game against the 76ers from 6pm to 8pm. This is the day Jayson Tatum will make his debut. This will be the fastest recovery ever from a torn achilles by an nba player, 9 months, is he rushing it?

2nd in the East potential lineup for the March 1st game

1.Derrick White

2.Payton Pritchard

3.Jaylen Brown

4.Jayson Tatum

5.Nikola Vucivik

Where does this 5 stack up in the East?

How long will it take for Tatum to be Tatum?

Tatum will be on heavy minutes restrictions, the goal is to get him ready and 100% for the playoffs

Will the philosophy change when Tatum comes back? This has been browns team all year, he’s been putting up mvp type numbers, will it stay this way?

What is one thing you want to see happen in the 2nd half of the nba season for the Celtics?

Buy out mark options?

Mass Live:

In order to stay under the tax line, the Celtics will need to time out their signings carefully. Boston currently sits about $843,000 below the line. That limitation could lead to Shulga also getting a roster spot down the road since his cap hit will be far lower than a veteran free agent signing. Boston will have flexibility to sign one veteran to their roster later in the season though so they could pursue some buyout options later in the regular season.

Boston may look to eventually bolster its team on the buyout market with some intriguing guards and wings expected to become available in the coming days. The team has the ability to sign any free agent that hits the open market after getting under the first apron this past week. However, a signing may not come until much later in the regular season for the tax reasons covered previously. A player may have to wait around for a bit before the Celtics can sign them for the year. Some 10-day contracts are also possible as well to fill the gap.

Brad Stevens - "What we will be looking for will not be somebody that we're going to ask to come in and be a part of the everyday rotation when we're fully healthy,” Stevens told reporters at the Auerbach Center, via CLNS Media. “But we also need people who can come in, accept that, and be ready to help us move this thing down the hill and forward.”

We’ve got three good two-ways that we feel really good about,” Stevens explained. “That gives us a lot of flexibility here.”

Celtics tradeSimons for Vucevic

Boston Celtics Received:

Nikola Vucevic — Veteran center and two-time NBA All-Star, averaging around 16.9 points and 9.0 rebounds this season.

A future second-round draft pick (from Chicago).

Chicago Bulls Received:

Anfernee Simons — Guard and scoring option (about 14.2 points per game this season).

A future second-round draft pick (from Boston).

Boston addressed a need in the frontcourt, adding size and veteran experience by acquiring Vucevic.

Part of the motivation was salary-cap management — trading Simons’ larger $27.7 M expiring contract for Vucevic’s lower expiring deal helped Boston reduce its luxury-tax burden and create additional financial flexibility

 Trade Details Context & Reasons

Vucevic 21.48 million expiring deal

2 million under first apron14 million under second apron27.7 million TPE. Flexibility under the 1st apron to use that in buy out market as well as a trade for 1 calender year
