Kelsey Fitzsimmons, a former North Andover police officer, is facing trial after prosecutors say she pointed a handgun at responding officers and pulled the trigger when they arrived to serve a restraining order that also immediately disrupted custody of her infant son.

Defense argues she was in a severe postpartum mental-health crisis, overwhelmed by sudden loss of relationship, custody, and career, and that she was attempting suicide rather than threatening police.
