When Clint Conley hung up his bass guitar after Mission of Burma’s initial run in 1983, he didn’t look back at music for over a decade. Trying his hand at manual labor before quickly deciding that it wasn’t for him, he went back to school to study broadcast journalism. As a thirty-something in a new field, he found his way in his new career, becoming a senior field producer at Chronicle, a popular news program at WCVB-TV in Boston, where he has been for over thirty years. In our conversation, we talk about his career path after music, and how music slowly crept back in, thanks to the ‘mania’ that comes with creativity, leading to some intense balancing of two bands, a family and a career, as Mission of Burma became more acclaimed than they had ever been. Clint is smart, funny and totally transparent about his life and career, and his story offers great tips for any musician looking to embark upon a new path.
