  • 39 Hallie Bulleit - Stage Actress / Dancer / Singer ( Unlovables / Hissyfits / Hiccup )
Hallie Bulleit wanted to be Better Midler growing up. Armed with a love of theater and a desire to perform, she went from bartending at famous NYC shithole The Continental to the cast of the hit play RENT. From there, Hallie went on to a career on stage, along with a parallel career on stage/floor/basement, performing with her bands including the Unlovables, Hissyfits, Hiccup and as a member of the Chris Gethard Show band with our own Bill Florio. In this manic and fun-filled episode, we touch upon everything from following your dreams to whether or not the stage or screen version of Annie is more racist. Check it out!

  • 38 Robert Collins - Trade Show Installer / Union President (Artimus Pyle / Conquest For Death / Fuckface / What Happens Next? / No Statik / Shit Coffins )
When Robert Collins moved away from Oklahoma in the early 90s to play in bands in the Bay Area and Milwaukee, he connected with a growing group of trade show installers recruited from early Gilman Street volunteers. Robert and his wife Karoline rose up the ranks together over the years, helping to recruit new punk rock talent to this niche career, and in 2017 he was elected president of his local union. In this episode we talk about the attraction of punks to the field, as well as why many are well suited for both the hard work and the ability to figure out logistics and get the job done. Somehow we end up comparing this scenario to Dave’s idea that all Medieval Times Knights are also in power metal bands which may or may not be true, but we’d like to think the world sometimes just works that perfectly.

  • 37 David Wilentz - Manager, Film Distribution (Shemps / Stallions / Thrashing Mad Tapes)
Both Bill and Dave have been in bands with this week’s guest, and we’ve all known him for decades, but that doesn’t mean we know anything about what he does for a living! We cover his early childhood filled with dinner parties attended by Beat Generation legends, to his introduction to punk rock through D.C. hardcore bands and his work with director Larry Clark which led to his discovery and love of film (at least we think). There’s a lot jammed into this episode, from living with tourette syndrome to the Lindburgh kidnapping trial, so get ready!

  • 36 Peter Menchetti - Professional Punk Rocker (Sticker Guy / Slovenly Recordings)
We don’t know what else to call Pete other than a ‘professional punk rocker’ because he’s found a way to make it work as a day job AND a side hustle. Since an epiphany about sticker printing while working at a car wash and the launch of Sticker Guy in 1993, Pete has built the business into the largest sticker provider for bands. Additionally, with 702 Records and then Slovenly Recordings, Pete has been behind some of your favorite garage rock, punk, trash and noise, as well as some things you haven’t even heard (but probably need to check out). In this episode we talk about running businesses, living all over the world, booking shows and what he’s learned along the way, including some insight into why ‘I Shit in the Milk’ is less of a saying and a sub-label and more of a way of life.

  • 35 Kim Coletta - Teacher / Educational Technology Director / Coach ( Jawbox / DeSoto Records )
Kim Coletta saw her band Jawbox go from Dischord Records to a major label record deal before breaking up in the late 90s. Faced with uncertainty as to what came next, Kim went to library school before realizing that cataloguing in archives was not actually what she wanted to do. Luckily, an opportunity presented itself at an all-boys private school in Maryland, and Kim has thrived for many years as a teacher of multiple subjects and grades, sports coach and tech director. Kim’s punk rock background mixed with the ability to keep the room in line (even Charlie in this interview), has led to a successful career, even as Jawbox began playing again. We discuss relating to your students, teaching in the same school as your son (who does NOT think your band is cool) and Ian MacKaye’s softball skills.

  • 34 Toody Cole - Entrepreneur (Dead Moon)
Growing up in Portland, Kathleen Conner thought she’d become a librarian or accountant. Nicknamed Toody by her friends, it wasn’t until The Weeds’ van ran out of gas in town in the late 1960s that she met her future husband Fred Cole that she found the perfect partner in business, music and life . Over the following decades, she and Fred raised a family, owned a variety of retail businesses and made music a priority, playing around the world in The Rats, The Range Rats, Pierced Arrows and of course the legendary Dead Moon. Toody is so old school that we had to figure out a way to dial her up through Zoom, and what ensued was an inspiring talk about chasing dreams, trying to survive while homesteading in the Yukon, sharing a love of music with the young punk rockers of the Pacific Northwest and ultimately remaining DIY through the thick and thin of it all. Light a candle and settle in for an incredible conversation.

  • 33 Marc Tamo - Branding Executive (Scherzo / Enemy You / Fat Wreck Chords )
In college, Marc Tamo’s goal was to intern and ultimately get a job at Alternative Tentacles to get closer to his favorite band, Neurosis. After convincing Fat Mike to be the first intern he went on to help launch the Honest Don's, a subsidiary of Fat Wreck Chords. He later moved up to help manage Phat as the label faced the decline of the punk rock’s mainstream appeal and the rise of file-sharing services like Napster. With his career in music coming to an end, he found an opportunity in public relations and later discovered a talent for storytelling through videos for technology businesses. His ‘serious’ career hasn’t dampened his sense of humor and humanity, and our discussion demonstrates on how doing what you love isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be.

  • 32 Jason Trachtenburg - Pet Care Professional (Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players / The Pendulum Swings)
Jason Trachtenburg marches to the beat of his own drummer. Through his projects, which include his band the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players (with his wife Tina and daughter Rachel) among others, his plays or other artistic endeavors, Jason has remained fully committed to his art. To make ends meet, he has owned and operated a successful dog walking and pet care business with Tina, first in Seattle and then in NYC. What we weren’t prepared for was Jason coming prepared with his OWN questions and answers, and what results is a zany conversation about work, music, creativity, the JFK assassination and the power of community and family.

  • 31 Jonathan Anastas - Marketing Executive (D.Y.S. / Slapshot)
Jonathan Anastas started playing in the Boston hardcore scene as a fourteen year-old in the seminal band D.Y.S., and his love for marketing and promotion followed soon after. He was instrumental in the development of the ‘crossover’ sound of punk meets metal that swept the scene, and was seemingly done with music altogether soon after high school. Initially planning to become a lawyer, he discovered advertising and marketing instead, and was an early pioneer of the digital marketing and video game industries. In our conversation, we talk about how many hardcore kids learned about P&L from Dischord Records, how a Metallica show at the Rat may have been as influential as Black Flag for the Boston scene and why so many marketing tactics may have gotten their start in the underground music scene.

  • 30 Craig ‘Craigums’ Billmeier - Audio Engineer ( World Air Guitar Champion / The Love Songs / Your Mother / All You Can Eat/ What Happens Next? )
The desire to live a life of adventure has led Craigums in some very interesting directions. From visiting every continent (and living as frugally as possible while on the road), to becoming an air guitar champion, coach and mentor, to working for a huge corporation by accident, his life and career are full of ‘why not?’ moments that have turned into fascinating stories and incredible experiences. In this episode we talk about air guitar, the intricacies of brand sponsorship, traveling (and living) on a budget, the cult of Weird Al Yankovic and how starting a family can turn everything on its head.
