In July 1991 18 year old Julie Dart was kidnapped from Leeds and forced to write ransom letters to her boyfriend and mother. Kept in a workshop by her kidnapper she tried to escape and was killed. Her body was found in Lincolnshire nine days later. Six months later in January 1992 25 year old Stephanie Slater was kidnapped while showing a house as an estate agent. She was taken to the same workshop while her kidnapper sent random notes to her employer. Once he had collected the ransom money Stephanie was let go and dropped off back to her family. She survived the kidnapping but sadly died of cancer in 2017 just aged 50 years old. Both women were kidnapped by serial predator Michael Sams who is still serving his life sentence today.

In June 2024, just last year, in Harrow Ontario, Carly Stannard-Walsh, 41, and her children, 13-year-old Madison and 8-year-old Hunter, were found dead in their house. They had all been shot. Their husband and father Steven Walsh was also found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and had killed his whole family before taking his own life. In a move we rarely see, the police correctly identified and named this as an act of intimate partner violence.

In August 2000 38 year old Christine Lundy and her 7 year old daughter Amber Lundy were brutally murdered in their New Zealand house. Their husband and father Mark Lundy was eventually arrested and convicted of the murders. But there are doubts about his guilt to this day.

What happens when a family is shattered by violence that leaves a husband and father on the run? Episode 50 of Killer in the Family marks a sombre milestone as we confront the harrowing story of the Fisher family. 

On 10 April 2001 a family home in a street in Arizona exploded. Inside Mary Fisher and her two children Bobby and Brittney Fisher had died. They didn’t die in the explosion; however, they were killed by husband and father Robert Fisher. He then escaped and is still a wanted fugitive to this day.

In February 2003 Louise L’Homme and her 10 month old baby Tia were killed by Louise’s boyfriend Andrew Roberts. A jealous and controlling partner Roberts couldn’t stand that Louise wanted to leave him so took her and Tia’s lives and continued to party in the same house until they were discovered days later.

On 5 May 2009 31 year old Sheri Coleman and her two sons 11 year old Garret and 9 year old Gavin were found murdered in the home they shared with husband and father Chris Coleman. On his return from the gym that day Coleman became a prime suspect in their murders and the police found a complex web of lies that he had created to hide the affair he was having. Exactly two years after the murders on 5 May 2011 Coleman was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of his wife and two sons.

In March 1976 Annette Bishop, her three children William, Brenton and Geoffrey and her mother-in-law Lobelia Bishop were all killed presumably by husband, father and son William Bradford Bishop. Not only did he bury all five bodies of his family in a nearby swamp he then absconded and has not been found since – despite being on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.
