Kings County has terminated its fire protection contract with the city of Avenal after city officials moved forward with a community boxing event inside a still‑under‑construction community center, despite warnings from the county fire chief that the building was unsafe.
Members of an animal rights activist group are facing up to six and a half years in prison for “rescuing” two baby goats from a Kings County dairy. The activists, who are part of Direct Action Everywhere, say they were rescuing a pair of baby goats that they allege were in immediate need of medical attention. Law enforcement and the Kings County District Attorney’s Office see the four activists’ actions as criminal.
